FAQ

Questions about Yaki

What is Yaki Straight?
Yaki is a hair texture that mimics relaxed or blow-dried Afro hair: straight, but with slightly coarser strands, a more matte shine and more body than regular straight extensions. Yaki Straight is the straight version.
What's the difference between Yaki and regular straight extensions?
Regular straight extensions are silky and glossy and suit naturally straight hair. Yaki has thicker strands, a more matte shine and more body, so it blends better with relaxed or blow-dried Afro hair.
Is Yaki right for me if I have natural Afro hair?
If you blow-dry your hair straight or relax it, Yaki Straight is a great match. If you wear your Afro hair natural, Kinky or Deep Wave extensions are a better choice, so the texture matches without you needing to heat-style.
What's the difference between Yaki and Kinky?
Yaki is a straight texture that mimics straightened Afro hair. Kinky is a dense, springy curl pattern that mimics natural, unrelaxed Afro hair. Choose based on how your own hair looks day to day.
Is Yaki Straight human hair?
Yes, our Yaki Straight is real human hair. Quality, length and colour vary between products, so check each product page for current availability.
Can I straighten and heat-style Yaki Straight?
Yes, human hair Yaki Straight can take heat styling. Always use heat protection and avoid daily styling so it lasts as long as possible.
Can I colour Yaki Straight?
Yes, human hair can be coloured both darker and lighter. We recommend having a hairdresser do the colouring to preserve the quality and structure of the hair.
Which method suits Yaki Straight if I have short relaxed hair?
A sew-in (weave) is often the best choice for short relaxed hair, often combined with a lace closure or lace frontal that is sewn in, never glued. We assess your hair at a consultation before choosing a method.
Does Yaki Straight revert to curly in humidity?
It gets a little more body and a slight kink in high humidity, just like relaxed hair does. That's part of what makes Yaki look natural.
How long does Yaki Straight last with a sew-in?
A sew-in is redone about every 2–3 months. The hair can be reused when it's redone, and how long it lasts overall depends on quality and care.

Yaki hair extensions at Fairwithhair

Yaki is a hair texture that mimics relaxed or blow-dried Afro hair. It is straight, but has a slightly coarser strand, a more matte shine and more body than regular straight extensions. That is why Yaki blends with your own hair where regular silky straight extensions often look too sleek and glossy. Our Yaki Straight is real human hair and can be styled and coloured like your own. Here we explain how it differs from other textures, which method suits it and how to care for Yaki for the best result.

What is Yaki Straight?
Yaki Straight is the straight version of Yaki. The texture resembles relaxed hair – more volume at the root, a matte, natural surface and a slight frizz in high humidity, just like relaxed hair. That is part of what makes Yaki look natural together with your own hair. If you blow-dry or relax your Afro hair, Yaki is usually the texture that gives the most natural transition between your own hair and the extensions.

Yaki or regular straight extensions?
Regular straight extensions are silky and glossy and suit naturally straight hair. Yaki has a thicker strand, a more matte shine and more body, so it blends better with relaxed or blow-dried Afro hair. Where silky straight extensions reflect a lot of light, Yaki has a softer and more natural surface – and it is often the shine that gives away extensions that do not match. If your hair is slightly wavy instead, wavy extensions may be a better option.

Yaki, Kinky or Deep Wave?
If you wear your Afro hair natural, without straightening it, Kinky or Deep Wave extensions suit you better than Yaki. Kinky has a dense, springy curl structure that mimics natural, unrelaxed Afro hair, while Deep Wave has deep, defined S-curls. If you would like looser curls, there are also curly extensions. Choose based on how your hair looks day to day – then you do not need to heat-style your own hair for it to match. All textures are gathered on Our hair textures.

The best method for Yaki
Sew-in (weave) is the most common method for Yaki. Your own hair is braided into cornrows and the wefts are sewn on with needle and thread. To hide the attachment completely, a sew-in is often combined with a lace closure or lace frontal, which is sewn on and never glued – we work glueless. A sew-in is often the best choice even with short relaxed hair, but we always assess your hair in a consultation before choosing a method. Read more about all hair extension methods and see our hair extension prices.

How long does Yaki last?
A sew-in is redone roughly every 2–3 months. The hair can be reused when it is redone, and how long it lasts in total depends on quality and care. Avoid daily heat styling and be gentle when washing and detangling, and the hair will last longer. Real Yaki can also be coloured both darker and lighter, but we recommend having a stylist do the colouring to preserve the quality and structure of the hair. Quality, length and colour vary between products, so check each product page for current availability.

Qualities and colour matching
We offer human hair extensions in Classic, Premium and Luxury quality, where Luxury is our best quality and Premium and Luxury are Remy hair. The right colour is just as important as the right texture. Always compare the colour with your ends and lengths in daylight, not your roots, as roots are often darker. If you are torn between two shades, we are happy to help you choose.

Styling and caring for Yaki
Yaki handles heat styling because it is human hair – always use heat protection. Wash gently with a moisturising sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner, ideally KIS KeraMoist, let the conditioner work and comb through with a wide-tooth comb from the ends upwards. Blow-dry with heat protection for the sleek, relaxed look. A Hotcomb at the roots helps your own hair blend with the extensions. Oil the lengths with KIS argan oil for softness without weighing the hair down, and protect your hair at night with a silk scarf or silk bonnet.
