How to choose

The right texture in four steps

  1. Let your hair air-dryLook at your hair without styling. Completely straight – choose straight. Soft waves – choose wavy. Clear curls – choose curly. Deep, tight curls – choose Deep Wave.
  2. Do you have Afro hair?If you blow-dry or relax your hair, Yaki suits you. If you wear your hair natural, Kinky or Deep Wave suits you.
  3. Think about how you styleReal hair can be straightened and curled, so a texture in between – often wavy – gives the most flexibility.

Quality, colour & method

One colour chart, every method

We have real hair extensions in the qualities Classic, Premium and Luxury. Luxury is our best quality, and Premium and Luxury are Remy hair. All colours share the same colour chart regardless of texture.

All textures work with tape, keratin, micro rings, micro weft, butterfly weft, invisible weft and sew-in. Real hair can be heat-styled and coloured both darker and lighter.

FAQ

Questions about hair textures

Which hair texture suits me best?
The simple rule is to match your own natural hair texture. Look at how your hair looks when it air-dries: completely sleek suits straight, soft waves suit wavy, clear curls suit curly and tighter, deeper curls suit Deep Wave. If you're unsure, we'll help – book a free consultation online or at the salon in Stockholm or Uppsala.
Which hair textures does Fairwithhair offer?
We have straight, wavy, curly, Deep Wave, Yaki and Kinky human hair extensions. The range of qualities, lengths and colours differs between textures, so check each texture's page for current availability.
What is the difference between wavy and curly extensions?
Wavy extensions (Body Wave) have soft, relaxed waves with a long wavelength and give a summery, natural look. Curly extensions have more defined curls and spirals with a tighter wavelength, giving more volume and character.
What is the difference between curly and Deep Wave extensions?
Curly extensions have larger, looser curls and spirals. Deep Wave extensions have deeper, tighter and more defined S-shaped curls that give more volume and drama. Kinky is a texture of its own with a dense Afro structure – see the next question about Yaki and Kinky.
What is Yaki and who is it for?
Yaki is a straight texture with slightly coarser strands, a more matte shine and more body than regular straight extensions. It's made to blend with relaxed or blow-dried Afro hair, where regular sleek extensions often look too silky.
What is Kinky and who is it for?
Kinky is a dense, springy texture with small curls that mimics natural Afro hair. It suits you if you want the extensions to blend with your own unrelaxed Afro hair. Kinky is available in selected products – see the Kinky page for what's currently in stock.
Can I mix several textures?
Yes, many customers combine, for example, straight extensions with their own naturally wavy hair and style them together. The key is to have a styling plan so the transition looks natural – we're happy to show you how during the consultation.
Can I style and colour extensions in all textures?
Human hair extensions can be heat-styled in all textures – always use heat protection. Human hair can also be coloured both darker and lighter, and we recommend having a hairdresser do it to preserve quality and curl pattern. Synthetic extensions can take heat up to 120 degrees but can't be coloured.
Which texture is easiest to care for?
Straight and wavy extensions are the easiest and need the least moisture and styling. Curly, Deep Wave and Kinky need more moisture, leave-in and gentle handling – comb when damp and avoid brushing dry – so the curls keep their shape.
How do I choose a method, and can I buy hair extensions online?
All textures can be installed with our methods: tape, micro rings, keratin, micro weft, butterfly weft, invisible weft and sew-in. We choose the method based on your own hair, and installation is done in both Stockholm and Uppsala. You can also order the extensions in our online shop with delivery in 3–5 days and book a free online consultation first.

All about hair textures in real hair extensions

The right hair texture is the most important choice when you buy hair extensions or get an extension installation – often more important than colour. If the texture is wrong, the transition between your own hair and the extensions will show, however good the colour match. That is why we have real hair extensions in six textures: straight, wavy, curly, Deep Wave, Yaki and Kinky. Here we go through the differences between the textures, how to choose the right one and what to think about when it comes to quality, colour, method and care.

Straight extensions
Straight extensions are completely sleek from root to tip and give a classic, glossy and polished look. They suit you if you have naturally straight or slightly wavy hair, and they are the easiest texture to care for. Because it is real hair, you can wear it sleek, curl it with a curling iron or colour it, just like your own hair.

Wavy extensions (Body Wave)
Wavy extensions, also called Body Wave, have soft waves with a long wavelength and a light, lively movement. This is our most versatile texture: it blends into straight, wavy and slightly curly hair, and it can be straightened or enhanced. If you straighten the hair, the waves come back the next time you wash it.

Curly and Deep Wave extensions
Curly extensions have defined curls and spirals, sometimes called corkscrew curls. They give volume and character and suit you if you have curly hair of your own, or if you would like a curly ponytail or clip-in. Deep Wave extensions have deeper and tighter S-shaped curls than curly and give maximum volume and a pronounced texture. So the difference lies in the size and density of the curls: curly has larger, looser curls, while Deep Wave has deeper and more defined curls.

Yaki and Kinky for Afro hair
Yaki is straight but with slightly coarser strands, a more matte shine and more body than regular straight extensions. The texture mimics relaxed or blow-dried Afro hair, where silky straight extensions often look too sleek. Kinky is a dense, springy curl pattern with small curls that mimics natural, unrelaxed Afro hair. Kinky is available in selected products, so check the collection for what is in stock right now.

How to choose the right texture
The simple rule is to match how your own hair looks when it air-dries without styling. If it turns out completely straight, choose straight; if it dries softly wavy, choose wavy; and if you get clear curls, choose curly or Deep Wave. If you have Afro hair, the choice depends on how you wear your hair day to day: if you blow-dry or relax it, Yaki suits you; if you wear it natural, Kinky or Deep Wave suits you. Also think about how you want to style it. Real hair can be straightened and curled just like your own, so many people who switch between sleek and curly choose wavy, which sits in between and needs the least styling in either direction. You can also mix textures, for example straight extensions with naturally wavy hair of your own, as long as you have a plan for how to style them together.

Quality and colour
We have real hair extensions in the qualities Classic, Premium and Luxury. Luxury is our best quality and lasts the longest with the right care, and both Premium and Luxury are Remy hair. The range of qualities, lengths and colours varies between textures and products, so check each product page for what is available right now. All colours share the same colour chart regardless of texture, which makes it easy to find the right shade. Real hair can also be coloured both darker and lighter, and we recommend having a stylist do it to preserve the quality and curl pattern.

Methods for every texture
All textures work with our hair extension methods: tape, keratin, micro rings, micro weft, butterfly weft, invisible weft and sew-in. Curly and Deep Wave textures are often installed with sew-in, micro weft or micro rings because the attachments then blend naturally into the curls, while Yaki is often sewn in with a lace closure or lace frontal. We choose the method based on your own hair and your everyday life. You can see what each method costs on our hair extension prices page.

Care by texture
Straight and wavy extensions are the easiest and need the least moisture and styling. Curly, Deep Wave and Kinky need more moisture, leave-in and gentle handling – comb them when damp and avoid brushing them dry, so the curls keep their shape. Whatever the texture, use heat protection when you heat-style, and ideally braid the hair loosely or wear a silk bonnet at night.
