FAQ

Questions about curly extensions

What are curly hair extensions?
Curly hair extensions have defined curls and spirals with a tighter wavelength than wavy hair, but not as tight as Deep Wave. They give full volume, movement and a glamorous look. We have them in human hair, and a curly ponytail is also in our range.
Can I wear curly extensions if my own hair is straight?
Yes, but for it to look natural you usually need to curl your own hair where it meets the extensions. An alternative is a curly ponytail or clip-in, where you decide how much shows. We'll show you how to style it so everything blends together.
Are curly extensions a good fit if I already have curly hair?
Yes, curly human hair extensions are perfect if you already have curly or wavy hair. We match curl pattern and colour so the transition between your hair and the extensions is as natural as possible.
Which method is best for curly hair extensions?
It depends on your everyday life and your own hair. Sew-in, micro weft and micro rings blend naturally into the curl structure, tape and keratin suit you if you want to keep the curls in longer, and clip-in is perfect if you want to put the hair in and take it out yourself.
Can I use keratin on curly hair?
Yes, keratin works well on curly hair. You choose strands in the same texture as your own hair. If your hair is very tightly curled, we do a consultation first to make sure the bond sits as it should.
How do I care for curly extensions at home?
Wash with sulphate-free shampoo and use leave-in conditioner afterwards to keep the curls moisturised. Never brush dry curly hair – detangle gently with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb while the hair is damp and has conditioner in it. Ideally sleep in a silk bonnet or on a silk pillowcase.
Can I straighten or heat-style curly extensions?
Yes, curly human hair extensions can be straightened, but do it rarely and always with heat protection – too much heat can affect the curl pattern over time. A diffuser on low heat is the gentlest option. If you want to switch often between straight and curly, we'll help you choose the right quality.
Do curly extensions shed or tangle more than straight ones?
All human hair extensions can shed a little, especially at first. Curly extensions are sometimes seen as more prone to tangling, but with the right brush, products and care you minimise both shedding and tangles.
How long do curly extensions last and when are they moved up?
It depends on quality, method and care. The hair is moved up or reinstalled regularly: tape every 8–10 weeks, micro rings, micro weft and sew-in every 2–3 months, and keratin lasts 3–4 months before reinstallation. Curly texture needs extra moisture to keep its shape.
Which products do you recommend for curly hair extensions?
We recommend the KIS Kurl range with leave-in conditioner, curl cream and argan oil – developed to define, moisturise and care for curls. The products work just as well on your natural hair as on human hair extensions.

Curly hair extensions at Fairwithhair

Curly hair extensions give you defined curls, corkscrew curls and full volume. They are one of our most characterful textures and an obvious choice if you have curly hair of your own and want more length and thickness – or if you want to try a curly look with a ponytail or clip-in. Our curly extensions are human hair, so you can style, wash and colour them just like your own hair. Here we explain how curly extensions differ from other textures, which methods suit them, how to care for the curls and how to find the right colour.

What are curly hair extensions?
Curly extensions have defined curls and spirals with a tighter wave pattern than wavy hair, but not as tight as Deep Wave. The result is full volume, movement and a glamorous look. Because the curls make the hair look shorter than it is, the length is always measured as straight hair. Curly extensions are available in lengths up to 70 cm, and the range of colours and lengths varies between products – check each product for current availability. Our range also includes a curly ponytail.

Curly, wavy or Deep Wave?
Curly extensions have tighter curls than wavy extensions (Body Wave), but looser and larger spirals than Deep Wave extensions. If you are unsure which texture you have, look at your hair when it air-dries. Clear, defined curls suit curly, while very deep and tight curls suit Deep Wave. If you have natural Afro hair, Kinky may be a better match, and if you blow-dry or relax your Afro hair, Yaki is often the right choice. If your hair is naturally straight, straight extensions are the easiest to blend. All textures are gathered on Our hair textures.

Curly extensions for curly or straight hair
If you have curly or wavy hair of your own, we match curl pattern and colour so the transition between your hair and the extensions is as natural as possible. Curly extensions add volume and length without you needing to curl your own hair. Straight hair works too, but then you usually need to curl your own hair where it meets the extensions. An alternative is a curly ponytail or clip-in, where you decide how much shows. We are happy to show you how to style it so everything blends.

Methods for curly hair extensions
Which method suits you best depends on your everyday life and your own hair. Sew-in, micro weft and micro rings are popular choices for curly hair because the attachments blend naturally into the curl structure. Tape and keratin suit you if you want to keep the curls in for longer periods. Keratin works well on curly hair – you choose strands in the same texture as your own hair, and if your hair is very tightly curled we do a consultation first to make sure the bond sits as it should. Clip-in is perfect if you want to put the hair in and take it out yourself. Compare all hair extension methods and see our hair extension prices.

How long do curly extensions last?
How long they last depends on quality, method and care. The hair is moved up or reinstalled regularly: tape every 8–10 weeks, micro rings, micro weft and sew-in every 2–3 months, and keratin lasts 3–4 months before reinstallation. All human hair extensions can shed a little, especially at first, and curly extensions are sometimes felt to tangle more easily. With the right brush, the right products and good care you minimise both shedding and tangles. We offer human hair extensions in Classic, Premium and Luxury quality, where Luxury is our best quality and Premium and Luxury are Remy hair.

How to care for curly extensions
Curls need more moisture than straight hair. Wash with the KIS Kurl range, which is sulphate-free and developed for curly hair, and moisturise daily with leave-in or curl cream. Define the curls in damp hair with KIS Dafrizz curl cream and scrunch them. Never brush dry curls – only detangle damp hair with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb. A diffuser on low heat is the gentlest option. You can use a flat iron on human hair, but do it rarely and always with heat protection, as too much heat can change the curl pattern over time. Protect your hair at night with a silk bonnet or the pineapple method, and finish with a little KIS argan oil on the ends for shine.

Find the right colour and buy curly extensions
The right colour makes a big difference to a natural result. Compare in our colour chart or send us a photo of your hair and we will help you. Order curly extensions in the online shop with delivery in 3–5 days, or book an installation at our salons in Stockholm by Odenplan and in Uppsala. We have worked with hair extensions since 2009 and are happy to help you find the right curl size, colour and method – book a free consultation, online or in person. For medical hair loss in Sweden, a requisition (rekvisition) can be used for hair extensions, but the rules differ between regions.
