A lace front wig is a popular choice for anyone who wants a natural-looking hairline. It has a thin lace front at the forehead, where the hair appears to grow directly from the scalp.
The result is soft and realistic - especially when the color, fit and placement are right.
What a lace front wig is
Lace is a thin, transparent mesh. In a lace front, it sits at the front along the hairline, and the hair strands are hand-tied into the mesh to create a soft transition between skin and hair.
This makes the wig look realistic at the front, and allows you to wear the hair away from your face or create a parting close to the hairline.
Why it looks natural
The lace blends into the skin instead of ending in a visible edge. That is the difference compared with a classic wig, where the hair starts abruptly.
Four things determine how good the result will be: the right lace shade for your skin tone, an appropriate hair density along the hairline, correct placement and an edge cut to match your individual hairline.
Who it suits
Anyone who wants a natural-looking hairline and styling freedom at the front. It works particularly well for frontal hair loss and for anyone who wants to be able to wear the hair away from the face.
If you need to be able to put your hair up completely freely, a lace front is not always enough - then a frontal is what you need. The difference is explained in Lace, closure or frontal.
Human Hair or synthetic
Human Hair provides the greatest styling freedom and a natural movement, and can withstand heat-styling tools when used with heat protection.
Synthetic hair requires less maintenance and holds its shape on its own, but cannot be restyled. The full comparison is available in Human Hair wig or synthetic wig.
Do you need glue?
Not always. Many lace front wigs stay securely in place with the right size, adjustable straps and combs.
Glue or tape is used when the edge needs to lie completely flat or when you have little of your own hair to secure it to. If you use it, the residue should always be dissolved with a suitable remover - never scrubbed off, as this is what causes the lace to turn yellow and tear.
How to care for it
Handle the lace carefully. Never pull on the edge when removing the wig - hold the cap at the nape and lift it forward instead.
Avoid applying product at the hairline, brush from the ends upward, use products intended for wigs and store the wig on a stand.
Common mistakes
The wrong lace shade, a hairline that looks too straight and too dense, too much glue and lace cut too close to the hairline.
The last mistake cannot be undone, which is why we cut the lace for our customers in Lace-Cut. If the hairline looks too even or the knots are too dark, Hairline Perfect solves the problem.

Frequently asked questions
How long does the lace itself last?
With daily use, usually one to two years. It is a consumable part, just like the elastic band - when it becomes fragile, you replace the front edge and keep the rest of the wig.
What is the difference between transparent lace and HD lace?
HD lace is thinner and blends into the skin better, but it is also more delicate and tears more easily. Transparent lace is sturdier and works for most skin tones.
Can I buy a lace front wig online and cut the lace myself?
You can, but this is the step most people regret. If the edge is cut too close, the small hairs that make the hairline look believable disappear, and it cannot be restored. We can cut it before we send the wig.
