Human Hair vs Synthetic Wigs

It’s the first question almost everyone asks, and there’s no answer that suits everyone. Human Hair and synthetic hair each have their strengths – the choice depends on how you plan to use the wig, not on which one is “best”.

Here, we go through the differences honestly, including what is usually left out.

The big difference: shape after washing

The synthetic fiber has the hairstyle built in. When the wig dries, it returns to its shape by itself – the same curls, the same movement, every time. You never need to blow-dry or straighten it.

Human Hair behaves like your own hair. After washing, it needs to be styled, just as you would style your own hair. It requires more work, but also gives you the freedom to decide how it should look that day.

When Human Hair is the right choice

Choose Human Hair if you wear a wig every day over a long period, want to be able to color it or change the style, or want the hair to withstand heat without limitations.

Human Hair moves and catches the light in a way synthetic hair does not. The difference is noticeable up close and in bright sunlight. How long the wig lasts depends on the quality: Classic 2–4 months, Premium 3–5 months and Luxury 1–2 years with normal use. Luxury can also be repaired and renewed, which makes it less expensive over time despite the higher initial price.

When vegan synthetic hair is the right choice

Choose vegan if you want something that works straight away in the morning without styling, if it is your first wig, or if you want several to alternate between.

Our vegan range is heat resistant up to 120 °C (248 °F), so you can straighten and curl it – this is not a given with all synthetic wigs. It costs less, requires less care and contains no animal materials.

The differences at a glance

Styling

Human Hair: complete freedom, withstands all heat, must be styled after washing.
Vegan: withstands heat up to 120 °C (248 °F), retains its shape by itself.

Coloring

Human Hair: can be colored by a hairdresser.
Vegan: cannot be colored – choose the right shade from the start.

Durability

Human Hair: Classic 2–4 months, Premium 3–5 months, Luxury 1–2 years.
Vegan: 1–3 months, depending on how much it is worn.

Care

Human Hair: like your own hair, with products intended for wigs.
Vegan: washed infrequently, with lukewarm water, air-dries into its finished style.

Feel

Human Hair: heavier, moves naturally.
Vegan: lighter, retains its shape even in rain and wind.

Do you have to choose?

Many of our customers have both. A vegan wig for everyday wear and exercise, and a Human Hair wig for work and occasions when they want to look their best. Alternating between them also helps both wigs last longer.

The construction matters just as much as the material

The choice of material determines how the hair behaves. The construction determines how natural the hairline and parting look – and that is often what reveals a wig, regardless of whether the hair is real or not.

All our wigs are glueless

Regardless of the material, the wig stays in place without glue or tape, with adjustment at the nape. You put it on and take it off yourself every day, without products against your skin.

Frequently asked questions

Can you tell that a synthetic wig is not Human Hair?

The difference is most noticeable in the shine – synthetic hair has a more even luster. In everyday life, it is rarely noticeable, especially if the wig has lace or bangs that conceal the hairline.

Can I use a straightener on a vegan wig?

Yes, up to 120 °C (248 °F). Always start low and test on a small section at the nape first. Above 120 °C the fiber melts, and that can’t be repaired.

Why does Human Hair cost more?

The material is limited and must be sorted so that all the strands lie in the same direction; otherwise, the hair tangles. The more uniform the hair, the higher the quality and price.

How often should a wig be washed?

A Human Hair wig is washed once a week to every other week, as needed. A synthetic wig is washed every other week. The wig doesn’t get greasy the way your own hair does, because it does not sit against a scalp that produces sebum.

Which is best for hair loss?

Both work. The construction matters most – a mono top with hand-tied hair looks most natural on top of the head, where it is most visible. See our wigs for hair loss and cancer treatment.
