It's one of the first questions we get, and a hard one to find answered anywhere else. Here's what a wig actually costs, what the region pays, and what's left for you.
Our price range
A wig can cost anything from a few hundred kronor to nearly twenty thousand. The difference isn't arbitrary – it comes down to the material and how the cap is built.
- Synthetic wig from 499 SEK. Heat-friendly fibre that holds its shape by itself. Simplest in everyday life, needs the least care.
- Medical wig with mono top from 1,990 SEK. Hand-tied hair across the whole crown, so the hair looks like it grows from your head however you part it. It's the construction most people choose for hair loss.
- Human hair wig from 8,490 SEK. Can be styled and coloured and lasts considerably longer, but asks more of you.
- Full lace in human hair up to 17,990 SEK. Lace throughout the cap, so you can tie the hair up and change the parting freely.
Count by the year, not by the price tag
A synthetic wig lasts roughly one to three months depending on how often you wear it. Daily wear puts you closer to a month; occasional wear makes it last longer. Human hair lasts considerably longer with the right care.
That's worth knowing before you compare prices. A cheap synthetic wig that needs replacing several times a year can cost more over twelve months than a more expensive wig that lasts. If the wig will be worn daily through a whole course of treatment, that's a calculation worth doing together with us.
What the region pays
If you've lost hair because of illness or treatment, you're entitled to a grant through a prescription. It's issued by your care team, usually by your contact nurse. This is a Swedish arrangement and applies within Sweden only.
The amount is set by your region and by whether the need is short-term or lasting. In practice it usually falls between 4,000 and 8,000 SEK a year. Some regions distinguish between chemotherapy and permanent hair loss and give a lower amount for the first. Others have a small patient contribution, and some state the amount excluding VAT, which in practice means more wig for the money than the figure suggests.

Two worked examples
Synthetic wig with mono top, 2,490 SEK. With a prescription of 5,000 SEK the whole purchase is covered, and depending on the region's rules the remainder can sometimes go towards a second wig or a head covering within the same period. Having two to alternate between also extends the life of both.
Human hair wig, 11,990 SEK. With a prescription of 7,000 SEK you pay 4,990 SEK yourself. So you decide whether to add your own money or stay within the grant. Both are entirely normal.
What isn't included
The grant covers the wig itself and the fitting. Care products such as shampoo, conditioner, a wig stand and tape you pay for yourself, as well as washing and repairs.
You don't have to pay up front
We're an approved supplier in all 21 Swedish regions and invoice the region directly. You only pay any difference at the checkout, online or in the salon. So you don't have to lay out the full sum and claim it back afterwards.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to choose the most expensive one for it to look good?
No. Price mainly governs how much you can restyle the wig and how long it lasts. What decides whether it looks natural is the cap construction and having it cut to your face, not the price tag.
What happens if the wig costs less than the prescription?
That depends on the region. Some let you use the remainder within the same period, others don't. Get in touch and we'll check what applies to you.
How often will I need to replace a wig?
A synthetic wig lasts one to three months depending on use; human hair lasts considerably longer. We're happy to help you work out what's best value over a year, based on how you plan to wear it.
Can I use the grant for a head covering instead?
