Micro rings work by being clamped flat around your own hair and the tip of the hair extension. This creates a strong mechanical lock with no heat, tape or glue needed.
The rings are made of a lightweight metal with an inner layer of soft, ridged silicone. The silicone is essential because it creates friction that stops the hair extensions slipping while protecting your own hair.
You can style your hair extensions as usual with both straighteners and curling irons. Avoid placing the hot tool directly on the micro rings, though, as extreme heat can damage the silicone lining inside.
This method is generally very gentle and an excellent, chemical-free option for most normal to thick hair types. If your hair is extremely fine or sensitive, though, ask an expert to make sure your follicles can handle the weight of the metal.
You usually need one micro ring per hair extension strand, which means around 100 to 150 rings for a full extension with stick hair. It's worth buying a few extra rings to keep in reserve for future adjustments or move-ups.
Choose a micro ring colour that matches your own root colour rather than the shade of your hair extensions. Matching the ring exactly to your scalp keeps the attachments discreet and invisible even when your hair moves.
The metal and silicone micro rings themselves can't be dyed, toned or bleached. If you plan to colour your natural regrowth, we recommend doing it before the rings go in or while they're temporarily out.
Correctly fitted micro rings usually hold the hair in place for about two to three months before regrowth means they need a move-up. The ring itself is a consumable and is replaced with a brand-new one at every move-up to guarantee the most secure grip.
Unlike keratin wax or tape extensions, these rings need no melting or chemical removers when you take them out. They open easily by squeezing them the opposite way with pliers, making the method incredibly smooth and quick.
Always store spare micro rings dry in their original packaging to protect the metal from moisture and dust. Once the rings are in your hair, sleep with a loose braid to stop the attachments matting overnight.
