Butterfly weft is an extra-thin hand-tied weft attached close to the scalp with micro rings. The edge is so flat you can barely feel it when you run your hand through your hair.
- What? – Thin hand-tied weft, attached to a row of micro rings with no sewing.
- Who? – Normal to thick hair, wants volume and length.
- How long? – Lasts for months, move-up after one to two months.
- Pros/cons? – Pros: flat, gentle, reusable. Cons: needs your own hair to attach to.
How it differs from a regular hair weft
The difference lies in the thickness of the edge. A traditional machine-sewn weft has a more noticeable band that you can feel when you wear your hair up or sleep on it. Butterfly weft is made to lie close, so you can wear several rows without adding bulk to the head.
The method is especially good if you want a lot of hair but still want to wear it up. Because the wefts lie flat, you can do a ponytail or a messy bun without the attachments showing as easily as with thicker rows. We place the rows according to your hair growth and how you usually wear your hair – something we decide together at the consultation.
The installation includes colour matching, installation and a cut so the hair extensions blend with your own hair. You can buy the hair from us or bring your own.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between butterfly weft and a sew-in?
The attachment. With a sew-in, the wefts are sewn onto a braid with needle and thread. Butterfly weft is instead attached to micro rings through its pre-punched holes, with no sewing at all. The edge is also thinner, so the rows add less bulk.
Can I work out and swim with butterfly weft?
Yes. Braid your hair or tie it up before training, rinse out chlorine and salt as soon as you can, and let your hair dry completely before putting it up again.
Can butterfly weft be combined with tape or keratin?
Yes, we often combine methods to suit different areas of the head. The sides and the area around the ears may need a thinner solution than the nape.
