Every hair topper has the same job: to add volume and coverage where your own hair has thinned. The difference lies in the base — the material the strands are tied into. It decides how natural the parting looks, how cool the hair piece feels, how much you can style it and what it costs.
We sell four base types. Here is how they differ.
Mono
Monofilament is a fine mesh where every strand is tied by hand. The mesh is transparent, so your own scalp shows through and the hair looks like it grows straight out of the skin — whichever way you comb it.
The big advantage is that the parting is not fixed. You can place it anywhere in the mono section and change it whenever you like, just as with your own hair.
Suits you if you change your parting, want the most realism on top of the head and wear the topper daily.
Silk
A silk base is made of two layers of fabric with the knots hidden in between. Only the strand itself comes through on the surface, which means no knots are visible at all. The parting looks like skin.
It is the most lifelike parting available. The trade-off is that the base builds slightly more height, feels firmer and is warmer to wear, since there are two layers instead of one.
Suits you if you want the most realistic parting and have a fixed parting you are happy with.
Lace
Lace is a thin, transparent mesh where the strands are tied one by one. It is airier than both mono and silk, which lets the scalp breathe better.
From certain angles the knots can show as small dark dots, which can be softened by bleaching them. The drawback is fragility — the thinner the lace, the more easily it tears.
Suits you if you get warm easily, have a sensitive scalp or want a larger coverage area without the heat.

Fishnet
Fishnet is an open, wide-meshed net. It gives the best air circulation of all and is the lightest of the four bases — you barely feel it is there.
Because the net is open, more of your own hair shows through, which means it blends best when you still have some hair of your own. If the scalp is very sparse, the coverage will not be as complete as with mono or silk.
Suits you if you want volume rather than coverage, you train, or you find other toppers warm.

The combination
Our Luxury Hair Topper Deluxe has mono in the parting and lace around it. That gives you the realistic parting where the eye falls, and the airier lace where coverage matters more than looks. For many people it is the best balance.
How to choose
Start from two questions.
Do you change your parting? If you do, choose mono or lace. A silk base has its parting in one fixed place.
Do you get warm? If the answer is yes, choose lace or fishnet. Silk is the warmest, mono sits in between.

Frequently asked questions
Which base lasts longest?
Silk and mono are the sturdiest, because they have more material. Lace and fishnet are more delicate precisely because they are thinner. With daily wear a hair topper in real hair generally lasts one to two years whatever the base — how you handle the edge matters more than the base itself.
Can I style it with heat?
Yes, in all our toppers in real Remy hair. Always use heat protection and keep the tool away from the base itself, since heat directly on the mesh or fabric can damage the knots.
Do the knots show?
On lace they can show as small dark dots in bright light, and they can be bleached. On silk they do not show at all, since they sit between the fabric layers. On mono they are barely visible.
Which base is coolest?
Fishnet, followed by lace. Silk is the warmest because it has two layers of fabric against the skin.
