Rekvisition för barnperuk – så fungerar bidraget

Many parents contact us with the same question: do we have to pay for the wig ourselves? In Sweden there is a regional allowance for hair replacement, and for children it is often higher than for adults. Here is how it works in practice.

What a funding note is

A funding note (rekvisition) is a document issued by your region that you hand to the salon instead of paying yourself. The salon then invoices the region. It is the treating specialist physician who assesses whether the child is entitled to funding and who issues the note – a general practitioner at a health center usually cannot.

When funding can be granted

Funding is granted for significant or total hair loss caused by illness or treatment. Common reasons are alopecia areata, alopecia totalis or universalis, congenital hair defects, hair loss following chemotherapy or radiation, and hair loss after surgery or an accident.

Amounts differ between regions

There is no national amount. Region Stockholm grants up to SEK 9,500 per twelve-month period for a child, against SEK 7,000 for an adult. Other regions sit at other levels, and some give children exactly the same amount as adults. The rules also change over time.

Always check what applies in your own region, through 1177 or through the clinic issuing the note. We are happy to help interpret the decision.

Do not order online with a funding note

This is the most common mistake. Several regions state explicitly that funding is not paid out for hair replacement ordered over the internet. A funded purchase should therefore be made with an approved supplier, in person at a salon.

We are an approved supplier in all 21 regions and accept funding notes in both Stockholm and Uppsala.

What the funding covers – and does not

The funding covers the wig itself and, in many regions, the fitting. It does not normally cover care products such as shampoo and conditioner, washing or reconditioning, or replacement of a lost or damaged wig. If the wig costs more than the allowance, you pay the difference yourself.

How it works with us

  1. The specialist physician assesses the need and issues the funding note, which is sent to your home address.
  2. You call us on +46 764 15 90 00 and book a free consultation in Stockholm or Uppsala.
  3. We measure, fit and cut the wig together with the child.
  4. You hand us the funding note, and we invoice the region.

Take a copy of the note before you hand it over. This funding applies in Sweden only.

Funding is not only for wigs

In several regions the funding can also be used for hair extensions, false eyelashes and cosmetic eyebrow tattooing. The rules and amounts differ, so ask the issuing clinician what your particular note covers.
