Many people lose a lot of hair a few months after giving birth. It is a normal hormonal adjustment, and the hair usually grows back – but it is extremely difficult while it is happening.
What is actually happening
During pregnancy, hair strands remain in place longer than usual. After giving birth, they shed all at once, which feels like dramatic hair loss even though most of it is hair you would have lost gradually anyway.
Wait with heavy extensions
During the most intense period, we recommend not adding weight at the scalp. We would rather have you come back when the shedding has calmed down than put in hair that pulls on strands that are already on their way out.
What works in the meantime
- Clip on – volume on the days you need it, no strain the rest of the time
- Hairpiece – covers a wide parting without permanent attachment
- A haircut that creates fullness instead of length
When the baby hairs appear
The short strands around the hairline are a good sign. They stick straight up for a while – a little cream or a soft brush will smooth them down without you needing to spray them in place.
Book a consultation when you feel ready – we will assess the situation then.
