Full weave och hårhälsa – så skyddar du ditt eget hår

A full weave is often described as a way to give your hair a rest, and that's true – but only if the base is done correctly and your scalp is cared for in the meantime.

What protects your hair

  • The hair under the braids isn't exposed to heat from hairdryers, straighteners or curling irons
  • No pulling on the lengths from daily brushing and updos
  • The ends are spared friction against clothes and shoulders
  • No colouring or bleaching during this period

For many people, it's exactly this break that gives the hair time to recover.

What can damage your hair

We'll say this plainly, because it's the difference between a good and a bad experience:

  • Braids that are too tight. The strain shows first at the temples and hairline. A braid should be secure, not painful.
  • Too heavy an installation. The amount should be in proportion to what your own hair can carry.
  • Leaving it too long before reinstallation. After about three months, the hair has grown so much that the braids start to tangle.
  • Not washing. It's more common than you'd think, and your scalp suffers for it.

Your scalp in the meantime

  • Wash roughly every one to two weeks with a sulphate-free shampoo
  • Massage gently with your fingertips between the rows, not with your nails
  • Let your hair dry completely, including at the base – moisture left in the braids is the most common cause of itching
  • Use a light oil or serum on your scalp if it feels dry

Our hair care bundles work on both your own hair and hair extensions.

When it comes out

Your own hair will feel different when the braids are opened, and you'll see hair that has come loose. That's normal – hair that would have fallen out naturally over the months has stayed in the braid instead. It's not the same as hair loss.

Always let a trained technician take it out. Most damage happens during removal, not while wearing it.

Give your hair a break in between

We recommend a few days between removal and a new installation, with washing, a hair mask and a scalp that's allowed to breathe. Your hair will carry the next weave better.

Book an appointment

We check your scalp before every new installation and tell you if we think your hair needs a longer rest. Book a full weave with us in Stockholm or Uppsala, or read our guide to how the method works.
