Frequently asked questions

Does the service cost anything?

No. The consultation, delivery to the hospital and fitting are free of charge. You only pay for the wig you choose, and booking does not commit you to a purchase.

Which hospitals do you visit?

Hospitals in Stockholm County and Uppsala County. If you are elsewhere in Sweden, we help you with a free online consultation and send the wig to you.

How does the consultation work while I am in hospital?

We call you by phone or video at the time you booked. You can stay in bed, and a relative is welcome to join the call.

Can a relative book for me?

Yes. A relative can book and join the consultation. In the booking, tell us who to call and which hospital and ward you are on.

Can I use a requisition?

Yes. We are an approved supplier for wig requisitions throughout Sweden and help you with the paperwork, so you know what the grant covers before you choose.

Which wigs suit you during treatment?

We recommend Luxury human hair or vegan synthetic. Lace Front Plus, Classic Cap, Mono Part and Mono Top are the constructions that usually feel most comfortable with hair loss.

Do I need glue or tape?

No. All our wigs are glueless and stay in place with adjustable straps, with no glue or tape against the skin. That is gentle on a sensitive scalp.

What happens if the wig cannot be fitted on the ward?

Then we leave the wig with you or the ward and do the fitting later, at the hospital or in one of our salons once you are home.

I have not started losing hair yet – is it too early?

No. Many get in touch before hair loss starts so they can choose calmly. Then we have time to match the color to your own hair and have the wig ready when you need it.

How do I care for the wig after the fitting?

We go through care when we fit the wig. You will also find our care guides for human hair wigs and synthetic wigs here on the site.

Wigs delivered to hospitals in Stockholm and Uppsala

Losing your hair during a hospital stay is hard enough, and the last thing you should have to do is travel to a salon to choose a wig. That is why we come to you. If you are staying in hospital in Stockholm County or Uppsala County, we start with a free online consultation, then deliver the wig to your ward and fit it on site. The consultation, delivery and fitting cost nothing – you only pay for the wig you choose.

We have worked with wigs and hair replacement for 17 years, and every week we meet people who lose their hair because of chemotherapy, radiotherapy or other medical treatment. We know this is a situation where you need time, calm and someone who listens – not stress and sales talk.

How the consultation works while you are in hospital

The consultation takes place by phone or video at the time you booked. You can stay in bed, and a relative is welcome to join the call or book for you. We go through how your hair looks today or looked before, which color and length you want, which size fits and which wig construction feels most comfortable for you. Photos of how you usually wear your hair are a great help when we choose the shade.

Delivery and fitting on the ward

When the wig is ready, we come to the hospital and fit it together with you. We adjust the fit, show you how to put the wig on and take it off, and go through how to care for it. If a fitting is not possible on the ward that day – for example if you are too tired or the ward is not receiving visitors – we leave the wig with you or the staff and do the fitting later, at the hospital or in one of our salons once you are home.

Which wigs suit you during treatment?

During treatment the scalp often becomes sensitive, so comfort comes first. We recommend our wigs for hair loss – Luxury human hair or vegan synthetic. The constructions Lace Front Plus, Classic Cap, Mono Part and Mono Top usually feel most comfortable on a sensitive scalp. A human hair wig can be styled, colored and cut like your own hair and lasts 1–2 years with normal use, while a synthetic wig is easier to care for and keeps its style after washing. In our guide Our Wig Models we compare all constructions.

All our wigs are glueless

None of our wigs need glue or tape. They stay in place with adjustable straps, and our Comfort Cap has no combs or clips at all. That is gentle when the skin on your head is tender, and you can put the wig on and take it off yourself without help.

Requisition throughout Sweden

Fairwithhair is an approved supplier for wig requisitions throughout Sweden and has been for many years. If you have received a requisition from your doctor, we help you with the paperwork so you know what the grant covers before you choose. Read more about wigs with a requisition. Special rules apply for children and young people in many regions – feel free to ask us during the consultation.

When is the best time to get in touch?

Ideally before your hair starts to fall out. With chemotherapy, hair often starts to come loose two to three weeks after the first treatment, but it varies. If you contact us early, we have time to match the color to your own hair and have the wig ready when you need it. But it is never too late – we also help you when your hair has already fallen out.

Where is the service available?

We deliver and fit at hospitals in Stockholm County and Uppsala County. If you are in hospital elsewhere in Sweden, we offer a free online consultation and send the wig to you. Once you are home again, you are welcome to try on wigs at Fairwithwigs, Norrtullsgatan 26B in Stockholm, or in our salon at Skolgatan 49 in Uppsala, always by appointment. If you also need something to wear on your head at home and at night, you will find tips in our guide Headwear during cancer treatment.
