Tape-in extensions are wide, thin wefts with a self-adhesive strip, attached in pairs around a thin section of your own hair. The attachment is flat and sits close to the head.
- What? – Thin wefts with tape, attached in pairs around your hair.
- Who? – Fine to normal hair, wanting quick volume.
- How long? – 8–10 weeks, then removed and re-taped.
- Pros/cons? – Pros: quick installation, flat attachment. Cons: sensitive to oils.
The fastest of the permanent methods
A full installation takes much less time than individual strands, and the attachments are so thin they don't add bulk. That makes the method a good choice if you have fine hair where thicker attachments would show.
Products decide how long it lasts
What decides how long the tape lasts isn't the method but the products. Oil, silicone and rich conditioners dissolve the adhesive, and just letting conditioner run down over the attachment in the shower can halve how long it holds. Use a sulfate-free shampoo, keep conditioner and masks from mid-lengths down, and avoid dry shampoo directly on the attachments.
At a move-up, we remove the old tape with remover, clean the wefts and re-tape them. The same hair can be used several times as long as the quality holds up.
We do tape-in installations at our salon at Norrtullsgatan 26A and sell hair, tape and remover in the shop.
Frequently asked questions
How often does the tape need replacing?
Every 8–10 weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows and how you care for it.
Can I have tape-ins if I have oily hair?
Yes, but make sure you wash your scalp thoroughly and avoid oil-based products near the attachment. Oily hair needs more frequent washing, not fewer attachments.
Which products ruin the tape attachment?
Anything oily or silicone-based: hair oil, rich conditioners, some leave-ins and certain sun protection products for hair. Check the ingredients or ask us.
