Blonde, bleached and greying hair turns yellow over time. That's because the yellow pigments in the hair (normally masked by darker pigments) become visible when hair is lightened or goes grey, and they're intensified by sun, chlorine and heat styling. A silver shampoo neutralises brassiness with purple/blue pigments that counteract yellow on the colour wheel.
How to use silver shampoo the right way
- Don't use it every wash – start with 1–2 times a week and adjust depending on how quickly the yellow tone comes back.
- Leave the shampoo on for a minute or so before rinsing – rinsing too quickly gives no effect.
- Always follow with conditioner. Silver shampoo can dry out the hair if overused, so moisture is essential.
- Does your hair look purple-grey after washing? You've left it on too long or used too much – rinse more thoroughly next time.
