Hårbotten efter sommaren: mjäll, torrhet och återhämtning - Fairwithhair

Sun, salt, chlorine and hot days take a toll on the scalp. The effects are rarely noticeable in July - they appear in September as itching, flaking or dandruff that was not there before. The scalp is skin, and just like the skin on your face, it needs recovery after summer.

Summer's effects, in plain language

  • The scalp feels tight immediately after washing
  • Small, dry flakes in the parting and at the temples
  • Itching at the nape of the neck in the evening
  • Oily roots but dry lengths - a sign of imbalance
  • Redness or soreness in the parting after hours in the sun

Dry scalp or dandruff? They are not the same thing

A dry scalp causes small, white, dry flakes and a tight feeling. It is caused by dehydration and can be resolved with moisture and gentler washing.

Dandruff causes larger, yellowish and slightly greasy flakes, often together with itching, and is caused by an imbalance in the scalp's microflora. Moisture alone is not enough in that case - you need a product that actually addresses the cause, such as the KeraScalp kit for dandruff and scalp problems.

Adjust your washing routine first

  • Switch to lukewarm water. Hot water washes away the skin's protective oils.
  • Massage with your fingertips, never your nails - scratches make the itching worse.
  • If your scalp is irritated, you can replace shampoo with Royal Scalp Cleanditioner, which cleanses and conditions in one step.
  • Rinse for longer than you think. Product residue at the roots is a common cause of an itchy scalp.

Give your skin a treatment

KIS KeraScalp Revitalizer is massaged into a clean, damp scalp and is not rinsed out. It nourishes and supports hair growth without leaving greasy residue, making it easy to use even when you wear hair extensions or a hairpiece.

If you would like to complement it with oil, Fair Hair growth oil can be worked into the scalp the evening before washing.

If you wear hair extensions

An irritated scalp tolerates less pulling than a healthy one. Tie your hair up loosely instead of tightly, section it when massaging in the product so that you can reach the skin between the attachments, and do not postpone the maintenance appointment - grown-out attachments increase the tension precisely where the skin is already sensitive.

Frequently asked questions

Can my scalp become dry if I wash my hair too infrequently?

Yes. Sebum, sweat and product residue that remain for too long can irritate the skin and cause both itching and flaking - exactly the symptoms associated with dryness. If your scalp itches more the longer you wait between washes, it is a sign that the interval is too long, not too short.

Can I wear hair extensions if I have a sensitive scalp?

Usually, yes, but the method and amount of hair are more important than usual. A method that distributes the weight over a larger area puts less strain on the skin than a few heavy attachments. Tell us about your scalp during the consultation so that both the method and amount can be adapted to it.

How long does it take before the scalp feels better?

In cases of simple dehydration, two to three weeks of gentler washing and regular treatment are usually enough. If it is dandruff, it takes longer - often four to six weeks - and you need to continue using the product even after the flakes have disappeared to prevent them from returning.

If the symptoms persist or worsen, it is worth having a doctor examine your scalp. Not all itching has the same cause.
