Braids are both a hairstyle and a form of protection. With the right tension, your own hair gets a break from daily styling, heat and friction - which becomes clearly noticeable after a few months.
What we braid
- Box braids - individual braids with square sections
- Knotless braids - a softer start, with less pulling at the scalp
- Cornrows - braids that lie close to the head
- Braids as a base - for those who are going to sew in hair extensions
Tension is everything
A braid should feel secure, never tight. If you feel stinging or pulling, or notice the skin around your hairline being lifted - tell us immediately. We would rather redo a braid than risk traction damage around the temples, which takes a long time to grow back.
How to make your braids last longer
- Sleep with a silk scarf or silk bonnet
- Moisturise your scalp with a light oil or spray every other day
- Wash your scalp gently - do not skip it
- Take out the braids after 6-8 weeks, not later
Take a break between sets
Leave your hair unbraided for a few days between sets. This gives your scalp time to recover and lets you see how your hair is actually doing before your next appointment.
