The first 72 hours after your keratin treatment

If we could give just one piece of advice about a keratin treatment, it would be this: take the first 72 hours seriously. The keratin has been sealed in but has not yet fully stabilized in the hair shaft.

What not to do

Do not wash your hair. Do not tie it up in a ponytail, bun, or braid. Do not use hairpins, clips, or headbands. Do not tuck your hair behind your ears, and avoid wearing sunglasses pushed up on your head. Anything that creates a crease can become permanently fixed in the straightened structure.

Also avoid exercise that causes heavy sweating, as well as swimming in pools or the sea.

What you can do

Your hair should hang loose and straight. You may brush it gently with a soft brush, and you may sleep on it - preferably on a silk or satin pillowcase, which creates less friction than cotton. If your hair gets wet from rain, blow-dry it straight again as soon as you can.

First wash

After three days, wash your hair for the first time using Cocochoco sulfate-free shampoo and sulfate-free conditioner. Use lukewarm water, not hot water. This will be your routine going forward, not just for the first wash.

When is the treatment fully set?

After approximately one week, the keratin will be fully set. After that, you can return to wearing your hair up and resume normal activities, but continue using the sulfate-free products for the entire duration.
