Many people who book their first appointment with us aren't quite sure what to expect. Should you cut your own hair first? How long does it take? Can you change your mind?
Here's the whole visit, from the door to walking back out.
Before you come
We only take booked appointments at Norrtullsgatan 26B. That's deliberate: you shouldn't have to try on wigs with other customers in the room. Allow an hour, sometimes longer if you want to see a lot of models.
You don't need to prepare anything at all. Come with your hair as it is, whether you have long hair of your own, short regrowth or no hair left. You don't need a haircut beforehand – we'll solve the fit anyway, and if you do want a cut we'll do it here once you know which wig you've chosen.
Bring a photo of your own hair as it used to look, if you have one. For many people the starting point is wanting to recognise themselves, and a photo says more than a description.
We start by talking, not by trying on
The first fifteen minutes aren't about hair. We want to know what your everyday life looks like: do you work somewhere warm, do you exercise, do you sleep in the wig, is your scalp sensitive right now? A wig that's perfect for someone who wears it at weekends isn't always right for someone wearing it twelve hours a day.
If you're here before or during chemotherapy, we'll say it plainly: it's common to come in before the hair starts to fall. Colour and volume are often easier to match then, and you avoid making the decision in the middle of the hardest part.
Measuring and choosing a cap
We measure the head in three places. Most people land in medium, but the difference between sizes is what decides whether the wig stays put – and a wig that slips is nearly always a size question.
Then we choose the construction. All our wigs are glueless, so you should never need glue or tape against the skin. If your scalp is sensitive or you find clips uncomfortable, there's the Comfort Cap, which has only adjustable drawstrings and a thin edge.
Trying on
Now we start trying. We bring out three to five models that suit your measurements and what you've said you want, and you see them on yourself in daylight – not just under the mirror lights.
Two things tend to surprise people:
- The colour looks different on you than on the shelf. That's why we'd rather not sell a wig on a colour code if you're able to come in.
- Straight out of the box, every wig has a factory cut. It's made for no one in particular. Once you've chosen a model we cut it to your face, and that's when it stops looking like a wig.
You're allowed to say no. Nobody leaves here with a wig that feels wrong because the staff put in the time.
We only sell real hair here
At 26B we have real hair wigs only, plus accessories, turbans and wig services. If you'd like to look at heat-resistant synthetic wigs, they're in our other shop at 26A, a few metres away. It's not an upgrade we're trying to sell you – synthetic is a perfectly sensible choice for many people, especially as a second wig.
If you have a prescription
We're an approved supplier in all 21 Swedish regions. Bring your prescription (rekvisition) and we'll handle the paperwork with your region. You don't need to know the amount or the rules in advance – we go through what's covered while you're here.
Before you leave
You'll learn to put the wig on yourself, not just watch us do it. We go through washing, drying and how often it needs servicing. And you'll know you can come back – a wig that feels slightly off after two weeks of wear is something we adjust, not something you should put up with.
