Hair extensions can be colored, but not just any way. Unlike your own hair, they lack the scalp’s ability to recover - what you do remains.
The basic rule
Darkening with a toner is fine. Do not bleach them lighter. Real hair extensions have already undergone processing during production, and additional bleaching makes them porous and tangled in a very short time.
Common reasons to use a toner
- The hair has become somewhat lighter after a summer
- You have colored your own hair darker and need to match it
- You want to remove a yellow tone or warm up the color
Let us do it
Toning hair extensions requires a shorter processing time and a milder product than toning your own hair. We always test on a small strand first - it is the only way to know how that particular hair will take the color.
When coloring your own hair
If you have extensions in place: apply the color at the roots, never over the attachment points. Tell us when you book that you have hair extensions, so we can allow the right amount of time and plan the work in the right order.
Are you going to change your color completely? Do it before putting in the hair extensions.
