Many people lose a lot of hair a few months after giving birth. It's a normal hormonal shift, and the hair usually grows back – but it's really hard while it's happening.
What's actually going on
During pregnancy, hairs stay put for longer than usual. After the birth they let go all at once, which feels like dramatic hair loss even though most of it is hair you would have lost gradually anyway.
Hold off on heavy extensions
During the most intense period, we recommend not adding weight at the scalp. We'd rather ask you to come back once the shedding has calmed down than install hair that pulls on strands that are already on their way out.
What works in the meantime
- Clip-on – volume on the days you need it, no strain the rest of the time
- Hairpiece – covers a wide parting without a permanent attachment
- A haircut that adds fullness rather than length
When the baby hairs arrive
The short hairs around the hairline are a good sign. They'll stand straight up for a while – a light cream or a soft brush will smooth them down without you having to spray them in place.
Book a consultation when you feel ready – we'll assess things then.
