Buying hair extensions online is easy, but a few recurring mistakes are behind most of the disappointments we hear about in the salon. Here are the most common ones, and how to avoid them.
1. Matching the colour to the wrong part of your hair
Many people hold the colour sample against their roots. But it is the lengths and ends the extensions will sit next to, and they are almost always lighter than the regrowth. Match against the lengths, and do it in daylight – fluorescent lighting and screens shift both tone and depth.
If you are torn between two shades, choose the lighter one. A tone that is too light can be toned down; one that is too dark is harder to rescue.
2. Choosing a long length but too little hair
The longer the hair, the more of it you need so the ends do not look thin and wispy. This is the most common reason an order feels thin when it arrives. Plan for more hair when you go up in length – not the same amount stretched out.
3. Buying synthetic when you want real hair
The price difference is big, and it is easy to miss what you have ordered. Synthetic hair tolerates heat up to 120 °C but cannot be coloured. Real hair can be styled and coloured like your own. Check that the product name includes “Äkta Hår” (real hair) – and choose Premium or Luxury if you want Remy hair, where all the strands lie in the same direction.
4. Not thinking about the method
The hair is only half the choice. The method decides how it feels day to day. Hair weft and micro weft are gentle and long-lasting, keratin gives discreet attachments, and clip-on you put in and take out yourself. Choose a method based on your hair type and how often you want to wear the extensions.
5. Forgetting the aftercare
Hair extensions get no nourishment from the scalp, so they need more moisture than your own hair. Sulphate-free shampoo, brushing from the ends upwards and a loose braid at night are what make the difference between three months and a year.
How to tell you have good hair
The hair feels soft and elastic, is easy to brush through and has a natural shine rather than a plasticky surface. The strands should lie in the same direction and not tangle after the first wash.
Are the hair extensions a gift?
Colour, length and amount are hard to guess for someone else. Give a gift card instead – it can be used on everything, so the recipient can choose the hair themselves or book an installation with us.

Yes, our synthetic hair tolerates heat up to 120 °C. Keep your straightener or curling iron below that temperature.
What is the difference between Remy and real hair?
Remy is real hair where all the strands lie in the same direction, which means it tangles less. Our Premium and Luxury qualities are Remy. Classic is real hair but not Remy.
Can I colour my hair extensions?
Our real hair can be coloured both darker and lighter. Synthetic hair cannot be coloured.
