Have you received a voucher from your doctor but are unsure what to do with it? Here is the whole process, step by step.
Step 1: you receive the voucher
The voucher is issued by your doctor or another healthcare professional authorized to prescribe hair replacements. This often happens at the oncology department, dermatology clinic, or your primary care clinic, and many people receive it during the same visit when hair loss is first discussed.
The voucher should state who it applies to, the approved amount, and how long it is valid. If any of this information is missing, ask for a corrected voucher before ordering. It is much easier to resolve this in advance than afterward.
Step 2: what the grant covers
The grant covers the hair replacement itself: a wig, hair topper, or other hairpiece. In most regions, fitting and cutting are also included - in other words, the work involved in making the hair replacement your own.
Both the amount and any co-payment are determined separately by each region, and the figures change from time to time. Your own region is the only reliable source for what applies right now and specifically to you.
Step 3: what the grant does not cover
You cover the maintenance yourself. Washing, repairs, replacing bands or lace, shampoo, conditioning treatments, and a wig stand are not included.
It is worth knowing this from the start, because that is where the cost appears six months in.
Step 4: choose an approved supplier
The voucher can only be used with a supplier approved by the region. We are an approved supplier in all 21 regions and have been for many years, which means you can use your voucher with us regardless of where in the country you live.
On Wigs with vouchers in Sweden, you will find the page for your specific region, such as Västra Götaland, Skåne, Östergötland, or Örebro.
Step 5: send it in or bring it with you
If you live near one of our salons, simply bring the voucher to your appointment. If you live farther away, start with a free consultation by video call and then send the voucher to us.
We handle the contact with the region and invoice them directly. This means you do not need to pay the money yourself and apply for reimbursement afterward.
Step 6: if the cost is higher than the approved amount
If you choose a hair replacement that costs more than the voucher covers, you pay the difference yourself. This is completely permitted and very common, especially for those who want human hair.
We always tell you the final total before anything is ordered, so there are no surprises on the invoice.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use my voucher in a different region from the one where I live?
The voucher is linked to your home region, not to the place where you shop. Since we are an approved supplier in all 21 regions, you can use it with us in Uppsala, Stockholm, or online.
What should I do if I have lost the voucher?
Contact the person who issued it. A new one can usually be issued, but it must come from your healthcare provider. We cannot issue one for you, nor can we start an order without it.
Can I use a voucher when shopping online?
Yes. You have the consultation by video call and send the voucher to us, and we handle it just as we would during a salon visit. You then book the fitting and cutting once the wig has arrived.
