Putting up the hair on a wig takes slightly different tricks than with your own hair. The cap should not show, the lace should lie flat and the clip must not pull the wig backward. Here we go through how to do it – and which clip we recommend.
Why a separate clip for wigs?
In a wig, the hair is attached to the cap instead of growing from your head. If the clip takes too much hair or sits too low at the nape, it can pull the cap backward so the edge shows. Our Hair Clip Wig in L at 10.5 cm is made for putting up the hair at the back of a wig without it getting too heavy.
How to put up the hair on your wig
- Put the wig in place and secure it as usual before you start.
- Brush the hair back with a wig brush and hold the cap in place with your other hand.
- Twist the hair loosely upward along the back of your head – never so tightly that the cap moves.
- Place the clip in the middle of the back of your head, where the cap sits most securely.
- Check with a hand mirror that the edge at the nape does not show.
Lace front – mind the hairline
If you have a lace front wig, the hair at the forehead should lie softly. Do not pull it tightly back, as the lace can lift. Leave a few strands around your face for a more natural look.
Half-up is the gentlest
For everyday wear we recommend a half-up style: take the top section of hair and fasten it with the clip. The lower hair covers the nape, and the wig is put under the least strain.
Take the clip out before you store the wig
Always take the clip out before you put the wig on its stand. If it stays in for a long time it can leave marks in the hair, especially in synthetic wigs, which keep the shape they are given.
The clip comes in 1 Jet Black, 2 Dark Brown and Beige, matched to our color chart. See all clips in Hair Clips.
