Butterfly Weft

Butterfly weft is a hand-tied hair weft with an unusually thin edge and no return hair at all, so it lies flat against the head without building height at the attachment. It is attached with micro rings through pre-punched holes and is never sewn.

Frequently asked questions

What is butterfly weft?

A hand-tied hair weft where the short strands are folded in rather than up. This gives an unusually thin edge with no return hair at all, lying flat against the head.

Is butterfly weft sewn in?

No, never. The weft has pre-punched holes that the micro rings are threaded through. No needle, no glue and no heat.

How does it differ from a regular hair weft?

A machine-sewn hair weft has return hair in the seam, which gives a thicker, stiffer edge. Butterfly weft has folded-in strands and therefore a soft, thin edge.

Can the weft be cut to width?

Yes, it doesn't shed when it's cut. That means it can be tailored exactly to your head, instead of you having to adapt the placement to the weft.

How often does it need a move-up?

Every 1–2 months, as it sits on micro rings. The hair is reused – only the rings are replaced.

Is butterfly weft suitable for thin hair?

Yes, that's often where the method really shines. The thin edge and even weight distribution put less strain on fine hair than heavier bonds.

How much hair do I need?

For thickness alone, 50 to 100 grams is often enough. For both length and fullness, most people use 150 to 200 grams. Each pack contains 50 grams.

Which lengths and textures are available?

Straight and wavy in 50, 60 and 70 cm, curly in 50 cm. Straight has the widest colour range, with 14 shades.

Can I wear my hair up?

Yes, the thin edge doesn't peek through as easily as a regular hair weft when the hair is lifted from the nape. That's one of the method's biggest advantages.

Can I put it in myself?

Yes. You pull a strand of hair from each side through its own hole, side by side in the weft, and lock the two micro rings together where they meet. You'll need micro rings and micro ring pliers with a hook. If you'd rather have help, we do the installation in Stockholm and Uppsala.

Everything you need to know about Butterfly Weft

Butterfly weft – a thin edge with no return hair
In butterfly weft the short strands are folded in rather than up, so the edge is soft and thin. The weft has pre-punched holes and is attached with micro rings – it's never sewn.

1. What? – Hand-tied hair weft attached with micro rings.
2. Who? – All hair types, especially thin and fine hair.
3. How long? – Move-up every 1–2 months.
4. Pros/cons? – Flat and gentle, but needs tools and experience.

Tailored to your head
The weft can be cut to width without shedding. At a move-up the hair is reused; only the rings are replaced.

Textures and colours
Straight and wavy come in 50, 60 and 70 cm, curly in 50 cm. Straight has the widest colour range, with solid shades, ombré and piano. Send us a photo of your hair in daylight and we'll help you choose a shade.

How much hair do you need?
Each pack contains 50 grams. For extra thickness, 50–100 grams is often enough; for length and fullness, 150–200 grams.

Putting in butterfly weft yourself
Section the hair in a straight line and place the weft just below the parting. Use the hook tool to pull a strand of hair from each side through its own hole, in the direction of growth. The holes should sit side by side, and the two micro rings meet between them and are clamped together into one bond. If you have fine hair, add more bonds so the weight is spread evenly. You'll need micro rings and micro ring pliers with a hook.

Colouring
The hair is human hair and can be coloured both darker and lighter. Have a hairdresser do the colouring and test on a small section first so the result is even.

Installation in Stockholm and Uppsala
We carry out installation and reinstallation at both salons. The consultation is free.
