Att bära peruk i vardagen: träna, sova och duscha

The questions we get most often are rarely about appearance. They're about everyday life: can you work out, can you sleep in it, what happens in the shower – and what if someone hugs me? Here are the straight answers.

Working out

Yes, it works. Three things make a difference: a capliner underneath that absorbs sweat and adds grip, hair worn up or braided if the wig is long – and a wig that actually fits.

Many people use an older wig as their workout wig and save the nice one for other occasions. Sweat causes wear, especially on synthetic hair, and a workout wig can take that wear and tear.

If you still feel unsure when you're moving a lot, having your wig attached in the salon is the solution. The wig then stays in place for three to six weeks and you don't have to think about it at all.

Sleeping

We advise against it. The wig is exposed to hours of friction against the pillow, and synthetic hair tangles quickly as a result. Even human hair gets unnecessarily worn.

A soft cap or scarf works better if you don't want to sleep with nothing on your head. If your wig is attached, it's different – then it stays in place and you care for it according to the advice we've given you, ideally with a silk or satin pillowcase.

Showering and bathing

This is the big dividing line. If you wear the wig with straps and combs, you take it off to shower. If it's attached, it stays in place and you can shower, bathe and swim as usual.

It's exactly this difference that makes many people choose attachment after a while. Avoid water and strong heat for the first day after the attachment is done.

Weather

Wind is rarely the problem people imagine. A wig that fits properly stays in place even in a headwind – the hair moves, just like your own hair does.

Rain won't damage the wig, but human hair loses its style when it gets wet, just as your own hair would. What really causes wear is cold, dry indoor air, because wig hair can't rehydrate itself.

When someone hugs you

For many, this is the real worry – and one that's rarely said out loud. The answer is that a well-fitting wig doesn't move when someone hugs you, and other people almost never give a second thought to whether someone is wearing a wig.

The feeling that it might slip usually comes from it actually slipping a little. In that case it's the fit that needs fixing, not the anxiety that needs overcoming. Custom Fit sorts out size and fit in one go.

What decides everything: being able to put it on yourself

The most common reason a wig feels unreliable isn't the wig. It's that no one has shown you how to put it on. Most people place it too far back, which both looks wrong and makes it move.

One hour is enough to learn. We go through it in Wig Class, where you do the whole process yourself with us beside you.

Frequently asked questions

Can you swim in chlorinated water with a wig?

It works if your wig is attached, but chlorine and salt water dry out wig hair faster than anything else. Wet your hair with fresh water before going in, wear a swimming cap if you can, and rinse it straight afterwards.

Will a wig be hot in summer?

Warmer than your own hair, yes – but the difference mostly comes down to the cap. A construction with open sections breathes much better than a tight cap, and a thin cotton capliner does more for comfort than most people think.

Can I wear a helmet over my wig?

Yes. Tie your hair low at the nape so the helmet fits properly, and use a thin capliner to prevent friction. Expect the style to need refreshing afterwards – just like your own hair under a helmet.
