Mesh hårförlängning – så fungerar metoden - Fairwithhair

Mesh is a hair extension method for you if your own hair is thin. Instead of heat, glue or individual attachments, it uses a soft net that lies against the head – so it works when other methods become too heavy.

  1. What? – Soft net attached against the head, hair fixed to the net.
  2. Who? – Thin hair, hair loss, alopecia, sparse areas.
  3. How long? – Lasts for months, move-up every two to three months.
  4. Pros/cons? – Pros: puts no strain on your own hair. Cons: needs careful upkeep.

What is Mesh?

A thin, airy net is placed close to the scalp and the extensions are attached through the net. Your own hair doesn't carry the weight strand by strand – it's spread across the whole net. That's why the method works even when your own hair is sparse, fine or short. In this method we work with a lace closure or Luxury Hair Topper Deluxe in human hair.

Mesh for thin hair

This is the most common reason our clients choose Mesh. If your hair is naturally fine or has thinned over the years, the problem with individual attachments is that each one is held up by only a few strands. If there are too few, the attachment starts to pull.

With Mesh the weight is spread across the whole net, so you can get volume without straining individual strands. The method also suits:

  • Hair that has thinned after pregnancy or a stressful period
  • Alopecia and other forms of hair loss
  • Hair that can't tolerate heat or chemicals
  • Hair that needs a break from styling and attachments
  • A sensitive scalp, for example after medical treatment

How it differs from other methods

The difference lies in who the method is made for. Most hair extensions need your own hair to be strong enough to carry the weight. Mesh takes the load off the strands and makes volume and coverage possible even when your own hair is thin, sparse or unevenly distributed.

That makes it an option for hereditary hair loss, alopecia, hair loss after pregnancy or illness, and sparse areas that a regular installation can't cover. We check the condition of your scalp before deciding – Mesh requires healthy, calm skin.

How the treatment works

1. The hair is sectioned

We divide your hair into fine sections, tailored to your hair type and how much volume you want.

2. The net is placed

The soft net is placed close to the scalp without pulling. It should feel light – if you feel any pressure during installation, tell us right away.

3. The hair is attached

The extensions are attached through the net, with no glue and no heat. This keeps the attachment stable yet soft.

4. The hair is cut

Finally the hair is cut to blend with your own and shaped to your style. This is the step that makes the transition disappear.

Upkeep determines the result

Upkeep matters more here than with any other method. The net needs to be kept clean, your scalp needs air, and the treatment needs regular check-ups. It's built into how we book you: you get a follow-up appointment straight away.

Wearing Mesh

You can work out, sleep and style as usual. Care is similar to other hair extensions: brush from the bottom up, wash with sulphate-free shampoo, apply conditioner to the lengths rather than the scalp, and sleep with your hair in a loose braid. Our hair care kits work on both your own hair and hair extensions.

When something else is a better fit

If you have full, healthy hair and want maximum length, sew-in or micro weft is usually a better choice. Mesh comes into its own where your hair or scalp needs to be spared. Compare all options in our overview of hair extension methods.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mesh suitable for alopecia?

Often yes, but it depends on the type and extent and on the condition of your scalp. With larger bald areas a wig or hairpiece may give a better result – we go through this at the consultation.

Can you see the net when the hair is wet?

No, not if it's placed and covered correctly. The net sits under the hair, and the density is adapted to how much of your own hair we have to work with.

Can I have Mesh if I have very little of my own hair left?

Then Mesh may not be the right choice. The net needs something to attach to, and if that isn't there, we'd rather look at a hairpiece or wig.
