Uses

What can a closure be used for?

  • Natural hairline. The hair looks like it grows straight from the scalp at the parting.
  • Protective style. Your own hair is braided in and spared daily heat styling.
  • Flexible styling. Wear your hair straight, wavy or curly, with a middle or side parting.
  • Weave. The closure is sewn in on top and the wefts around it.
  • Mesh hair extensions. The closure can sit on top as the hair piece.
  • Everyday and special occasions. Just as natural at work as at weddings and parties.

Installation

How a closure is installed

  1. CornrowsYour own hair is braided into cornrows close to the head, so it is protected under the weave.
  2. The closure is placedThe closure is laid on top of the cornrows and the parting is placed where you want it.
  3. Sewn inWe sew the closure in, because it lasts better than glue. Then the wefts are sewn in around it.
  4. RedoThe weave is redone about every three months. The closure can often be reused if it is in good condition.

Closure or frontal?

The top or the whole hairline?

A closure covers the top and the parting. A 13x4-inch lace frontal covers the whole hairline from ear to ear, so you can comb your hair back and put it up.

Choose a closure if you usually wear your hair down with a parting. Choose a frontal if you want the most styling freedom.

FAQ

Questions about closures

What is a lace closure?
A lace closure is a hairpiece with hair knotted into thin lace. It covers the top of the head and gives a natural parting in a weave, so you don't need to leave any of your own hair out.
What's the difference between a lace closure and a silk base closure?
A silk base closure has a silk layer that hides the knots, so the parting looks like scalp. A lace closure has thin lace that blends with the scalp and covers a larger area.
What sizes are your closures?
Our lace closures are 5x5 inches and our silk base closures 4x4 inches.
What's the difference between a closure and a frontal?
A closure covers the top and the parting. A lace frontal is 13x4 inches and covers the entire hairline from ear to ear, so the hair can be combed back.
Can I change the parting in a closure?
Yes, the parting can be changed within the closure area – for example a middle or side parting.
Is a closure sewn in or glued?
Both work – a closure or frontal can be sewn in or glued, and every salon does it differently. We sew in, because it holds better.
What is HD lace?
HD lace is an extra thin, transparent lace that blends with more skin tones and makes the transition to the scalp less visible.
How long does a weave with a closure last?
A weave with a closure is redone about every three months. The closure can often be reused if it's in good condition.
Are closures used for anything other than weaves?
Yes. We use lace closures in Mesh hair extensions and in our Lace Closure wigs.
Can I buy a closure and have it sewn in by you?
Yes. Buy your closure in our online shop and book a weave with lace closure at our salon in Stockholm or Uppsala.

Lace closure and silk base closure – how to choose

A closure is the hair piece that makes a weave look natural at the parting. It covers the top of the head, where the wefts do not reach, and gives the impression that the hair grows straight from the scalp. At the same time your own hair is protected, because you do not need to leave any hair out at the front. At Fairwithhair you will find two types of closure in 100% real Remy hair: the lace closure and the silk base closure. Here we explain how they differ, how they are installed and how to choose the one that suits your style.

What is a lace closure?
A lace closure is a hair piece where every strand is hand-knotted into a thin, transparent lace. The lace blends with the scalp and makes the parting look natural. Our Luxury HD Lace Closure measures 5x5 inches and comes in straight, wavy and curly textures. HD lace is an extra-thin variant that blends with more skin tones and makes the transition to the scalp less visible. Because the area is large, you can place the parting wherever you like within the closure – in the middle, to the side or a little further out. If you want a more affordable option, there is the Classic Lace Closure with standard lace in 5x5 or 6x2 inches, where 6x2 gives a long, deep parting.

What is a silk base closure?
A silk base closure has a layer of silk over the knots. This makes the parting look like real scalp, with no visible knots and no need to bleach them. Our Luxury Silk Base Closure measures 4x4 inches and comes in straight and wavy textures. The base is slightly thicker and the area a little smaller than on a lace closure, but up close the effect is very realistic. A silk base suits you if you want the most natural parting possible and do not want to spend time customising the knots.

Lace closure or silk base – which should you choose?
Both give a natural result and protect your own hair. A lace closure is light and airy, covers a larger area and gives you more freedom with the parting. The knots can be bleached and the lace customised, and it is generally more affordable. A silk base gives you the most realistic scalp straight away, lies flat against the head and works well for a sensitive scalp, but usually costs a little more. If you find it hard to decide, we are happy to help you in a free consultation in the salon or online.

Closure or frontal?
A closure covers the top and the parting. A 13x4-inch lace frontal instead covers the whole hairline from ear to ear, so you can comb your hair back, put it up and change the parting along the entire front. Choose a closure if you usually wear your hair down with a parting and want a simpler installation. Choose a frontal if you want maximum styling freedom. Compare all the options, including leave out, in our guide to weaves with closure and frontal.

How a closure is installed
For a weave, your own hair is braided into cornrows close to the head. The closure is placed on top of the cornrows and secured before the wefts are sewn in around it. A closure can be sewn in, glued or taped, and every salon works differently. We sew it in, because it lasts better and stays more secure all the way until the weave is redone. A weave with a closure is redone about every three months, and the closure can often be reused if it is in good condition. You will find matching hair weft in the same quality.

Closures in mesh and wigs
Lace closures are not only used in weaves. In mesh hair extensions a closure can sit on top as the hair piece, and in our closure wigs the lace sits on top of the head and gives the same natural parting.

Caring for your closure
Wash the closure gently with sulphate-free, moisturising products and massage along the hair, not across the lace. Rinse with lukewarm water, pat dry with a soft towel and let it air-dry. Always use heat protection when styling with heat, and avoid getting oil and creams on the base – especially on a silk base, where it can leave marks.

Buy a closure and have it sewn in
