Peruker för alopeci eller cancerbehandling - Fairwithhair

Losing your hair can feel like losing a part of yourself. Many people describe it as one of the most vulnerable periods of their life, whether it is caused by alopecia or by medical treatment. This guide is here to make the choice easier and less daunting.

Start with your everyday life

The most common question is which wig is the most beautiful. The most useful question is how often you will wear it.

If the wig will be worn every day, for eight to twelve hours, comfort and fit matter more than anything else. If you only wear it on certain occasions, looks count for more and care for less.

Human hair or synthetic

Human hair feels softer, can be styled and lasts for several years, but it needs regular moisture because it gets no natural oils from a scalp.

Heat-resistant synthetic hair holds its style by itself and is easier day to day. Many people choose synthetic the first time for exactly that reason – in the middle of treatment, you rarely have the energy for one more task. You will find the full comparison in Human hair or synthetic wig.

The cap matters more than most people think

If your scalp is sensitive – as it often is during treatment – the inside of the wig decides whether you can wear it all day. A soft inside, a breathable construction, no hard seams and ideally no tape or glue against the skin.

A monofilament cap, where the hair is knotted into a fine mesh instead of being sewn in rows, feels noticeably gentler and also gives a parting that looks like real skin.

Length and colour

Our most common advice: choose something similar to the hair you had. Enough is already changing, and most people who try a completely new look in the middle of treatment end up regretting it.

The experiments can come later, when the wig feels like yours and not like an aid.

Requisition and price

In Sweden, your region covers hair replacement, as well as fitting and cutting, up to a set amount per calendar year through a requisition (rekvisition). We are an approved supplier in all 21 regions, so you can use your requisition with us wherever you live. The whole process is explained in Requisition step by step.

If you are wondering what it costs in practice, with worked examples and what is not included, we have gathered it all in What does a wig cost.

What a visit looks like

You start with a free consultation, either as a video call from home or in person in Uppsala or Stockholm. In the salon you sit in a private space, you are welcome to bring someone close to you, and you don't have to decide on the same day.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I get in touch?

Ideally a few weeks before your hair starts to fall out, if you know it will. That way we can match colour, length and hairline to your own hair, and the wig is ready at home when you need it. But it is perfectly possible to sort it out later too.

Will my hair grow back the same after treatment?

That is a question for your care team, not for us. What we see is that texture and colour are often different at first, and that many people use a wig or a hair topper as a transition.

Do I have to wear a wig all the time?

No. Many people switch between a wig when they are out and a turban or scarf at home, so the skin can rest. It is not either-or, and it is not a failure to go without for a few days. We have compared the two in Turban or wig for hair loss, and the practical side of treatment is covered in our guide to headwear during cancer.
