In Uppsala in November, a hat is non-negotiable. With a few small adjustments, it doesn't have to spoil your hair extensions or your wig.
With hair extensions
- Choose a loose-fitting hat – tight hats press and pull on the bonds
- A silk or satin lining reduces friction a lot
- Don't put a hat on damp hair – that's when matting forms at the bonds
- Take your hat off indoors – heat and moisture together are what flatten your hair
With a wig
- Wear a wig cap underneath – it keeps the wig in place when you take your hat off
- Pull your hat off backwards, not forwards over your forehead, so the hairline doesn't come with it
- If you have a lace front, check the edge after taking your hat off
Rescue your style after the hat
Flip your head upside down and gently shake at the roots. A little dry shampoo high up – but not near tape bonds – brings back volume. If you have curls, dampen your fingers and reshape a couple of curls around your face; that's usually enough.
