Frequently asked questions

Questions & answers

Which braid styles can I book with you?
Box braids in small, large and extra-small sizes, cornrows (2, 4 or 6), crochet braids, ponytail braid, men's braids and children's braids. All styles are available at both our Stockholm and Uppsala salons.
How long do braids last?
It depends on the style. Two cornrows last about 2–4 weeks, and four or six cornrows 3–5 weeks. Box braids and crochet braids last up to 2–3 months with the right care.
How long does it take to braid box braids?
Between three and seven hours, depending on size and length. The thinner the braids, the longer they take – but they also last the longest.
Do you braid boys' and men's hair?
Yes. We braid for men too – usually cornrows close to the head, on all of the hair or just on top. If you have short hair, we go through what is possible before we start.
Do braids suit all hair types?
Yes, we braid all hair types – from Scandinavian and curly hair to afro hair. How we braid depends on your scalp and the length of your hair.
Can I choose the colour and length of the braids?
Yes. For most styles we braid in synthetic braiding hair, so you can choose the colour, length and sometimes the thickness. You will find braiding hair and crochet hair in our online shop.
Do you braid children's hair?
Yes, we do box braids and cornrows for children. Children's braids are done looser and gentler on the scalp.
Does braiding hurt?
Braids can feel tight when they are new, but they should never sting. Tell us straight away in the chair if anything pulls. If you have a sensitive scalp, we braid looser and with more space between the braids.
How do I look after my braids?
Cleanse your scalp about once a week, moisturise the lengths with a leave-in and sleep in a satin bonnet or on a silk pillowcase. Our braid care page takes you through everything step by step.
Where do you braid, and how do I book?
At Norrtullsgatan 26A by Odenplan in Stockholm and at Skolgatan 49 in Uppsala. Book directly online or call us on +46 76-415 90 00.

Braids – how the techniques work

Braids are a protective style: the hair is braided down and gets a break from daily brushing, heat and styling. Synthetic hair is usually braided in, which lets you choose the length, thickness and colour.

Braids at a glance

  1. What? – Your own hair is braided, often with synthetic fibre added.
  2. Who? – All hair types, from Scandinavian to afro hair.
  3. How long? – From a few weeks up to three months.
  4. Pros/cons? – Gentle and maintenance-free, but takes time to put in.

The techniques and what sets them apart

Cornrows are braided close to the head – either in many narrow rows or as two, four or six braids. Two braids last about two to four weeks, four or six braids a little longer, three to five weeks, because the weight is spread more evenly. Cornrows suit women, men and children alike.

Box braids hang freely and come in three sizes. Extra small gives the fullest result and the most volume, small gives movement, and large makes a bold statement. The thinner the braids, the longer they take – between three and seven hours – but they also last the longest, up to two to three months.

Crochet braids are ready-made strands that are hooked into existing cornrows with a crochet needle. Because the base is already in place, the installation is much faster than regular braiding, and the result lasts two to three months.

Children's braids are braided looser and more gently on the scalp. Men's braids are usually done as cornrows close to the head, on all of the hair or just parts of it. A braided ponytail combines a braided base with a ponytail.

Are braids right for you?

The technique works on all hair types. What matters is your scalp: if it is sensitive, or you have had hair loss at the temples, the braids should be looser and spaced further apart. A braid should never sting once it is finished – tell us straight away in the chair if it feels tight.

Care

Clean the scalp between the braids with a spray or diluted shampoo instead of washing all of your hair. Lightly moisturise the lengths with a leave-in and sleep in a satin bonnet or on a satin pillowcase – cotton draws out moisture and causes frizz. If the hair starts to matt at the roots, take the braids out rather than pulling at them. Read all our braid care tips.
