That's the question we get most often before someone dares to order. The answer is yes, and it's not down to luck or how hard you pull. It's down to how the garment is sewn.
Why the concern exists
Most people have only worn a hat and scarf over their own hair. Hair provides friction, and without it it seems reasonable to assume that everything will slip off. This is also true on a regular thin piece of fabric.
A turban is not a piece of cloth. It is shaped to the shape of the head and stays in place by its own construction.
Three things that keep it going
The shape. The fabric is sewn so that it fits snugly around the back of the head and tapers at the neck. It's the taper that does the work, not the pressure around the forehead.
The stretch. The material gives way when you pull on it and then contracts. This means even pressure across the entire head instead of hard pressure in one spot.
The adjustment at the neck. Several of our models can be tightened at the back, which allows you to adjust the width to your head instead of hoping that one size fits all.
You don't need needles or tape.
Nothing should get stuck in the skin. Needles require hair to attach to, and tape on a scalp that is already sore from treatment is exactly the wrong way to go. A turban that needs tape is the wrong size or model.
When it still slides
It happens, and the reason is almost always one of two.
Wrong size. If it sits loosely over the back of the head, it will move backwards during the day. If the model has an adjustment, tighten it properly the first time.
Wrong placement. The front edge should be just above the eyebrows. Further up, the surface area that holds the object decreases, and then it loses grip.
A scarf you tie yourself is a different matter. You usually need a thin hat underneath to give the fabric something to hold onto, which we go over in How to Tie Your Scarf .
In the wind and when you sleep
It stays in place in the wind and when you bend over. If you're going to sleep in it, choose a model designed for that. A silk or satin night cap is made to lie still against the pillow, which an everyday turban is not.
Try if you can
It takes five minutes to feel the difference between a model that is sitting and one that is not, and it is difficult to judge from a picture. You are welcome to visit us in Stockholm or Uppsala by appointment.
