When a child starts losing their hair, the questions come fast and out of order. Will it show? Will it survive a gym class? What does it cost? Here is what we usually go through with parents at a consultation.
Human hair or synthetic
The industry almost always puts synthetic on children, and the reason is practical: a synthetic wig keeps its style after washing and needs no styling. But a synthetic wig only lasts 1–3 months, and a child who wears one every day will wear it out in a single term.
A wig in Luxury human hair lasts 1–2 years instead, and can be repaired and renewed after about 7–9 months. That is why we build the children's range on human hair and offer synthetic as an extra wig alongside it – useful for the days the other one is being washed.
The construction matters more than the style
For a child with a bare or sensitive scalp, the fastening decides whether the wig gets worn or ends up in a drawer. Many wigs are held by clips and combs that grip the child's own hair. If there is no hair left, they grip the skin instead.
Our children's wigs have a Comfort Cap: no clips, no combs, only adjustable drawstrings and a thin edge. At the front sits half lace, Lace Front Plus, which gives a soft hairline that holds even when the hair is tied up. The wig is glueless and needs neither glue nor tape.
Everyday life: school, gym, swimming
The question we get most often is whether the wig stays put. It does, through normal play and movement. For sports and rougher activities we recommend a wig grip band underneath for extra hold, without itching.
Swimming is its own question. Chlorinated water is hard on human hair, and many children prefer a swim cap or a turban at the poolside. It is worth talking through in advance, so it does not come as a surprise in the middle of a swimming lesson.
Size and measuring
Children's size sits around 50–52 cm measured around the head, along the hairline at the forehead, above the ears and down to the nape. Measure twice. At the consultation we measure together and adjust the cap on the spot.
Let the child choose
This is the advice we give most often, and the one that matters most. A child who has chosen the length, texture and style themselves wears the wig completely differently from a child who had one chosen for them. Let the child decide, even if the choice is not what you had in mind.
The cost
In Sweden, children with significant hair loss can receive funding from their region. The amounts are often higher for children than for adults, but they vary between regions. We are an approved supplier in all 21 regions.
You do not have to decide right away
A consultation with us is free, takes as long as it needs to and does not end in any obligation to buy. Many families come back a second time before deciding, and that is perfectly fine. Call us on +46 764 15 90 00 to book a time in Stockholm or Uppsala.
