Sew-in extensions sit securely, but both the braids and the lengths need care to keep their shine and feel for many weeks. The routine is simple once you have it in place.
Every morning
- Brush slowly, starting at the ends and working upwards
- Hold the braid with your other hand so you don't pull on your scalp
- Use a soft brush made for hair extensions
- Apply a little hair oil to the ends, not at the base
Washing
- Sulphate-free shampoo
- Gently massage your scalp with your fingertips
- Don't pull on the braids
- Leave conditioner on the lengths and ends, never on the seams
- Rinse thoroughly and dry your hair completely
How often
Wash roughly every five to eight days. Use a leave-in on the days you don't wash, and avoid wetting your hair unnecessarily – moisture left in the braids is what causes the most wear.
Styling
- Always use heat protection
- Low to medium heat
- Work in small sections
- Finish with a light oil for shine
At night
Night-time is one of the biggest causes of tangles. Sleep with your hair in a loose braid, use a satin or silk pillowcase, and never sleep with wet hair.
The products
- Sulphate-free shampoo and a moisturising conditioner
- Leave-in for softness
- Hair oil for the ends
- A hair mask about once a week
Our hair care bundles and KIS Keratin Infusion System are made to work on both your own hair and hair extensions.
How to tell your routine is working
- Your hair feels soft
- The braids sit securely
- No recurring tangles near the attachments
- The shine is still there after several weeks
If your hair starts tangling at the attachments despite your routine, it's usually a sign that it's time for a reinstallation – not that you're doing anything wrong.
