If a keratin treatment produces an uneven result or fades after six weeks instead of four months, surprisingly often the cause is the very first step: deep cleansing. Your daily shampoo is designed to cleanse gently and leave conditioning ingredients behind. Silicones, oils, dry shampoo and limescale deposits gradually build up a thin layer on the hair shaft. The keratin cannot penetrate that layer and instead sits on top of it. As a result, it does not bond to the hair shaft and is washed out quickly. Cocochoco Clarifying Shampoo has a deliberately elevated pH level. It does two things at once: removes buildup and opens the hair cuticle, allowing the keratin to be properly absorbed in the next step. Wet your hair thoroughly and massage a generous amount into both the hair and scalp. Lather and rinse. Repeat once more; two washes are recommended for the best results. Towel-dry and then blow-dry your hair completely before applying the keratin. This is not a daily shampoo. It should be used as preparation before a keratin treatment and can be used a couple of times a year to remove heavy buildup. After your treatment, switch directly to sulfate-free shampoo, which is what preserves the result. If you use clarifying shampoo regularly after a treatment, you are effectively washing out your own keratin. Why regular shampoo is not enough
