A hair topper is a simple, natural solution if you want more volume on top, at the parting or at the front without wearing a full wig. It attaches on top of your own hair and blends with your lengths.
What a hair topper is
A hair topper is a hairpiece placed on the top of the head. It covers thinner areas and makes the hair look fuller.
Unlike a wig, it doesn't cover the whole head but complements your own hair. That's why it works so well for thin hair when most of it is still there.
Who it suits
You, if you still have your own hair but want more coverage or volume in certain areas – thin hair on top, visible scalp at the parting or reduced volume at the crown.
If you have little or no hair of your own left, a wig is the right solution instead, since a topper needs hair to attach to and blend with.
Hair topper or wig?
A topper covers a defined area and blends with your own hair. It feels lighter, more discreet and cooler than a full wig.
A wig covers the whole head and is better suited to more extensive hair loss, or when you want a finished hairstyle straight away. We compare the two in more detail in Hair topper or wig.
How it attaches
Most hair toppers attach with small clips on the underside of the base. The clips are placed in your own hair and closed close to the scalp.
It should sit securely but never pull. If it does, the base is too small or the clips are in the wrong place.
How to choose the size
Choose a base that is slightly larger than the area you want to cover. That gives you better coverage and a softer result at the edges.
Think about where you need volume, how much coverage you want, which density matches your own hair and which length gives the best overall look.
Why human hair
A human hair topper usually gives the most natural result. It moves softly, can be styled and blends more easily with your own hair. Always use heat protection when styling with heat.

How to get a natural result
Colour, fit and cutting-in are what make the difference. The topper should match your own hair in shade and lie flat against the head.
If it's cut in together with your hair, the transition becomes softer. A monofilament base also gives a more realistic look where the parting shows.
Frequently asked questions
Will the hairpiece show when I wear my hair up?
The back edge can show when the hair is pulled up, because the base ends where it ends. A looser updo with a little hair left over the edge solves this. If you want to wear your hair up completely freely, a wig with a frontal is a better choice.
Can I sleep with a hair topper on?
We advise against it. The clips pull on your own hair during the night and the hairpiece tangles against the pillow. Take it off and place it on a stand, and both will last longer.
How long does a human hair topper last?
With daily wear and the right care, usually one to two years, sometimes longer. What matters is moisture and friction: remember to use a hair mask regularly and to move the clips.
