Weave with closure and frontal – how to choose
A weave means that wefts of real hair are sewn into cornrows close to the head. At the front you choose between leaving your own hair out (leave out), covering the top with a lace closure or the whole hairline with a lace frontal. Here we explain the differences.

All about weaves with closures and frontals
A weave is one of the most durable ways to get long, full hair. Wefts of real hair are sewn with needle and thread into cornrows close to the head, and the result lasts about three months before it is redone. What decides how a weave looks is what shows at the front – your own hair, a lace closure or a lace frontal. Here we go through the differences, so you can choose the option that suits your hair and the way you want to style it.
Weave with leave out
With a leave out, part of your own hair is left out at the front and at the parting. It blends with the weave and gives a very natural result – provided your own hair matches the weave in colour and texture. The downside is that the hair left out needs styling, often with heat, to blend in with the weave. A leave out suits you if your own hair is similar to the weave and you are happy to style the front yourself.
Weave with a lace closure
A lace closure covers the top of the head and gives a ready-made parting. All of your own hair is braided in and protected, and you do not need to style it. The closure comes as a 5x5-inch lace closure or a 4x4-inch silk base closure, where the silk layer makes the parting look like scalp. The parting can be placed freely within the closure area, so you can switch between a middle and a side parting. A closure suits you if you usually wear your hair down and want a protective style.
Weave with a lace frontal
A 13x4-inch lace frontal covers the whole hairline from ear to ear. That gives a natural hairline all the way along the front, so you can comb your hair back, change the parting and put it up. It is the most flexible choice if you want to style freely. Because the hairline has to sit right all the way from ear to ear, installing a frontal takes a little more care than a closure.
Which should you choose?
If your own hair matches the weave in colour and texture, a leave out works well. If you want to protect your own hair and skip styling it, choose a closure. If you want to comb your hair back and put it up, choose a frontal. If you are unsure, we are happy to help you choose at a free consultation in the salon.
Sewn in or glued?
A closure or frontal can be sewn in or glued, and salons work differently. We sew it in, because it lasts better and stays more secure for the whole period until the weave is redone.
What hair do we use?
We use wefts of real hair, usually in our Luxury quality, in straight, wavy or curly texture. The closure or frontal is chosen in the same texture and colour as the wefts, so everything blends together. The hair can often be reused when the weave is redone, depending on quality and care. You will find matching hair pieces among our closures and frontals.
Gentle on your own hair
Done properly, a weave is gentle. The cornrows should not pull, and under a closure or frontal your own hair is protected from daily heat styling. Tell us straight away if anything feels tight.
Care
Clean the scalp between the cornrows with diluted shampoo, rinse thoroughly and let the hair dry completely, so the cornrows underneath do not stay damp. Brush the wefts gently and use heat protection when you style with heat.
A weave as a protective style
Many people choose a weave for lots of length and volume, but a weave is also a way to protect your own hair. With your hair braided into cornrows, it is spared daily styling, and with a closure or frontal you do not need to style the front either. A weave takes longer to install than many other methods, but in return it stays in for about three months. When it is redone, the weave is taken out, your own hair is braided into new cornrows and the wefts are sewn in again.
Full weave and sew-in extensions
With a full weave, wefts are sewn in over the whole head, usually with a closure or frontal. If you would rather keep your own hair visible and just add length and volume, sew-in extensions are a good fit: the wefts are sewn in rows and your own hair covers the attachments.
