Most hairdressers cut hair. Fewer cut hair that is a blend of your own hair and added extensions, and that is where the difference shows. Extensions that are cut like regular hair often create a visible line where your own hair ends.
How we cut in hair extensions
We always blend the extensions into your own hair using point cutting and slide cutting, so that the transition is soft. The aim is for no one to be able to see where your hair ends. This applies both when the extensions are first fitted and during a regular haircut later, when the hair has grown out and the centre of gravity has shifted.
Colour is more delicate
Human Hair extensions can be coloured, but they take colour differently from hair that grows from the scalp because they lack natural oil production. We therefore almost always use toning colour and avoid bleaching the extensions themselves. If you want to go lighter, we instead recommend adding hair in the new shade.
If you have keratin bonds, tape or wefts, the colour must also be applied so that it does not get into the attachment. Bleach and certain products can dissolve glue and tape, and careless colouring can cost you the entire installation. Therefore, book your colour appointment with us if you already have extensions fitted, or tell your hairdresser exactly which method you have.
The simplest approach is to colour or tone your own hair before we fit new extensions. That way, we match the extensions to your finished colour rather than the other way around.

Can I bleach my own hair when I have extensions fitted?
We advise against bleaching close to the attachments. If you want to go several shades lighter, it is better to remove the hair, bleach it, and then fit new hair in the correct shade.
How often do extensions need to be cut?
Most people have their ends trimmed every two to three months, preferably when the extensions are moved up. Human Hair wears at the ends just like your own hair.
