The question we're asked most often is how long a keratin treatment lasts. The short answer is three to six months, depending on your lifestyle, your hair care and how closely you follow the aftercare advice. The longer answer is that the range is decided almost entirely by what happens between treatments. How often you wash your hair is the single biggest factor. If you wash it every day, the treatment fades faster than if you wash every second or third day. Next comes your choice of products: sulphates and sodium chloride strip out keratin with every wash. Chlorine and salt water are the next factor. A week's holiday with a daily swim in the pool can cost you a month of results. Intense heat without heat protection and hard water also take their toll. Wash less often and always with sulphate-free shampoo and sulphate-free conditioner. Use lukewarm water. Use the Cocochoco Keratin Repair Mask once or twice a week to keep topping up protein. Brush gently and avoid unnecessarily high heat when styling. If you swim regularly: wet your hair with clean water and apply conditioner before you get in. A saturated hair strand absorbs less chlorine. The effect fades gradually, so there's no sharp cut-off. Most people redo the treatment when the frizz starts coming back and styling takes longer – usually every three to six months.
