If a keratin treatment produces an uneven result or fades after six weeks instead of four months, surprisingly often the cause is the very first step: deep cleansing.

Why regular shampoo is not enough

Your daily shampoo is designed to cleanse gently and leave conditioning ingredients behind. Silicones, oils, dry shampoo and limescale deposits gradually build up a thin layer on the hair shaft. The keratin cannot penetrate that layer and instead sits on top of it. As a result, it does not bond to the hair shaft and is washed out quickly.

What a clarifying shampoo does

Cocochoco Clarifying Shampoo has a deliberately elevated pH level. It does two things at once: removes buildup and opens the hair cuticle, allowing the keratin to be properly absorbed in the next step.

How to use it

Wet your hair thoroughly and massage a generous amount into both the hair and scalp. Lather and rinse. Repeat once more; two washes are recommended for the best results. Towel-dry and then blow-dry your hair completely before applying the keratin.

An important clarification

This is not a daily shampoo. It should be used as preparation before a keratin treatment and can be used a couple of times a year to remove heavy buildup. After your treatment, switch directly to sulfate-free shampoo, which is what preserves the result.

If you use clarifying shampoo regularly after a treatment, you are effectively washing out your own keratin.
