It's the most common question we get about mesh, and the answer depends less on the length in centimetres than on what your hair looks like across your whole head.
What the net needs
The net has to sit securely against the head and be attached to your own hair. That takes three things:
- Enough new growth for the attachment to grip
- Fairly even hair growth – not just at the nape or the sides
- A healthy scalp
Very short but even hair often works better than longer hair that's sparse on top but thick at the nape. That's why we don't like to give an exact measurement over the phone.
Why we'd rather look than guess
Two people with the same hair length can get different answers. It's about density, where the hair grows and how the scalp is doing – things you can see in a minute in the chair but not at all in a photo.
That's why the consultation is free and you don't need to book a treatment. If it's too early, we'll tell you – and roughly how much longer it will take.
If it's too early
Then there are other solutions in the meantime:
- A human hair wig, which doesn't need any hair growth of your own at all
- A hair topper, if you have more hair at the sides than on top of your head
- Turbans and headwear for the days in between
If your hair is enough
We can often do the installation the same day or within a few days, depending on which hair you choose. We describe how it works step by step in our guide to mesh. If you'd like to compare the options, read Mesh or wig – which suits you?
