How long do sew-in hair extensions last? It's one of the most durable methods we work with, but the lifespan depends as much on care as on the hair itself.
On average
- Reinstallation roughly every two to three months
- The hair can be reused several times at reinstallation
- With the right care, the hair itself lasts for several months
Reinstallation isn't about the hair being worn out, but about your own hair having grown so the braids sit further down.
Your hair type makes a difference
- Fine hair lasts best when the braids are done softly and with less weight
- Normal hair usually lasts the longest
- Thick hair needs more hair to get a balanced fall
Washing
- Use a sulphate-free shampoo
- Massage your scalp gently with your fingertips, not your nails
- Don't pull hard on the braids when rinsing
- Let the hair dry completely, including at the base
Moisture left in the braids is what most often shortens the time between reinstallations.
Products
- Leave-in and a light hair oil on the lengths and ends
- A hair mask about once a week
- Heat protection every time you style with heat
In our online shop you'll find hair care bundles and KIS Keratin Infusion System, which work on both your own hair and hair extensions.
Brushing
Brush every day, ideally twice. Start at the ends, hold the braid steady and work your way up. That removes tangles before they have time to harden.
At night
- Sleep with your hair in a loose braid
- Use a satin or silk pillowcase
- Never sleep with wet hair
Signs it's time for reinstallation
- The braids start to feel loose
- The hair sits visibly lower than at installation
- You get more tangles near the attachments
- The hair becomes harder to detangle
Don't wait until it's matted – then the reinstallation takes longer and the risk of losing hair increases.
Book a reinstallation
We book a time for you at your installation. If you need to rebook or aren't sure when it's time, get in touch with us in Stockholm or Uppsala.
