Sometimes hair extensions are the wrong answer. If the scalp isn't healthy, that needs to be sorted first – otherwise we'd be building on a problem instead of hiding it.

When we advise against it

  • Patchy hair loss with clearly bald areas
  • An itchy, tender or flaky scalp
  • Hair that snaps with a light pull
  • Heavy hair loss that has come on suddenly

Talk to a doctor first

Sudden or patchy hair loss is something for a doctor or dermatologist to look at, not a hair salon. We can see what the hair looks like, but we can't find out why. Get it checked – then we're happy to help with the rest.

Alternatives in the meantime

If you're waiting for tests or are in the middle of treatment, there are gentler options: a hairpiece that isn't attached to the scalp, or a medical wig. Both give you coverage without putting strain on the hair you still have.

When you can come back

Once the scalp has settled and the hair loss has stabilised, we'll do a new assessment. Many people can then get extensions without any problems – with less hair and a lighter method than they first had in mind.
