Nail Hair Extensions, also called keratin wax strands, are one of the most widely used hair extension methods on the Swedish market today. Nail hair extensions are strands with keratin wax that are attached to your own hair using a heat tool. The method is perfect if you want a natural, versatile extension with long durability. The small, discreet bonds blend easily into your own hair and let you style and shape it exactly as you wish.

Disadvantages of Nail Hair Extensions

  • With poor care the hair can tangle, which leads to losing strands. This can happen even with Luxury quality.
  • Be careful with heat so you don't apply it too close to the bonds, which makes the keratin melt.
  • The method can be hard on the hair if the extensions are not cared for properly.

Applying Nail Hair Extensions

Placement of the strands is very important for the best and most comfortable result. The application area is about 1 cm from the scalp. Too close and it can hurt; too far down and the bonds can show. It is also important to take the right amount of hair for each strand – not too much and not too little – otherwise the extension can come loose.

Your own hair must be freshly washed before application. Use products that are not oil-based. A common mistake is applying extensions to greasy hair, which makes them loosen faster because oils stay under the bonds and dissolve the wax. The wax must also melt properly before the strand is applied, otherwise the bond may not enclose your hair and the risk of strands slipping increases.

Do not wash your hair for 48 hours after application.

  • Wash your hair with a deep-cleansing shampoo before application, or wash it twice.
  • Divide the hair into sections, preferably with a tail comb so the part is clear.
  • Take an appropriate amount of your own hair.
  • Pull the hair through the protection shield and secure it with a clip.
  • Place your own hair in the Nail Hair bond, then melt the wax with a heat tool.
  • Shape the wax around your own hair with your fingertips so it encloses the hair properly.
  • Repeat until all strands are in.
  • Give the wax time to set by not washing and only styling lightly for 48 hours.

Removing Nail Hair Extensions

  • Apply keratin remover to the bond.
  • Loosen the wax with removal pliers. It can take a while before the wax releases. Don't pull too hard – holding your own hair helps keep the weight off it.
  • Comb out any wax residue.

The hair can then easily be reused by applying new keratin bond refills.

Styling

Since all our Nail Hair extensions are 100% human hair, they can be colored, blow-dried and styled just like your natural hair. We recommend heat protection to protect both your own hair and the extensions, and heat tools should be used carefully so the keratin bonds don't melt.

Care

Keratin strands last 3–4 months, after which they are re-applied with new keratin. Since your own hair gets nourishment and shine from the scalp, it is especially important to care for the extensions so they don't dry out. Never use rich products such as conditioner, masks or oil on the scalp or bonds, as this makes the bonds slip. Always sleep with one or more loose braids so the bonds don't twist around each other at night.

Wash your hair 1–2 times a week and brush it through thoroughly before washing. Always hold at the root and brush gently, starting at the ends and working your way up.

  • Feel through your bonds daily so they don't twist together and cause tangles.
  • Tie your hair up and avoid getting it wet in salt water and chlorine, which dry out the extensions.
  • Wash with shampoo, then use mask and conditioner for a few minutes before rinsing – keeping them away from the bonds.
  • Never rub the hair when shampooing; stroke and squeeze the shampoo in.
  • Squeeze and finger-comb mask and conditioner through the hair.
  • Squeeze the water out with a towel after washing.
  • Air dry or use a hair dryer on low heat.
  • Use only the recommended KIS hair care on your extensions. We cannot guarantee the quality of the hair with other products that may contain incompatible ingredients.
  • Use a brush made for hair extensions.
  • If the hair tangles, detangle gently while holding at the bonds.
