The most common question from anyone growing out a short haircut: can I get hair extensions already? The answer is usually yes, but with two caveats.
How short is too short?
You need roughly 10–15 cm of your own hair for the attachments to be hidden. Any shorter and there simply isn't enough of your own hair to cover the bonds, so they will show when your hair moves.
The transition is the tricky part
When short hair is lengthened a lot, you get a visible “step” where your own hair ends. The solution is partly not to go too long in one go, and partly to place extra hair higher up so the thickness carries all the way to the ends.
Our recommendation
- Do it in two stages – a moderate length now, more at your next move-up
- Choose volume over maximum length the first time
- Expect the blending cut to take longer than usual
When we say wait
If your hair barely covers your ears, we recommend giving it a few more months. The result simply won't be good, and you would be paying for something you'll want to redo.
