KIS Color Protecting Treatment för färgat hår

Most hairdressers cut hair. Fewer cut hair that's a mix of your own and installed hair extensions – and that's where the difference shows. Extensions cut like ordinary hair often end up with a visible line where your own hair stops.

How we blend in hair extensions

We always blend the extensions into your own hair using point cutting and slide cutting, so the transition is soft. The goal is that no one can see where your hair ends. That applies both at a new installation and at regular cuts later on, once your hair has grown out and the weight has shifted.

Colour is more delicate

Human hair extensions take colour, but differently from hair growing out of the scalp, because they lack the natural oil production. That's why we almost always go for toning colour and avoid bleaching the extensions themselves. If you want to go lighter, we recommend adding hair in the new shade instead.

If you have keratin bonds, tape or hair weft in, the colour also has to be applied so it doesn't get into the attachment. Bleach and certain products can dissolve glue and tape, and a careless colour job can cost you the whole installation. So book your colour with us if you already have hair in, or tell your hairdresser exactly which method you have.

The simplest approach is to colour or tone your own hair before we install new hair. Then we match the extensions to your finished colour rather than the other way round.

Frequently asked questions

Can I bleach my own hair while I have extensions in?

We advise against bleaching close to the attachments. If you want to go several shades lighter, it's better to take the hair out, bleach, and then install new hair in the right shade.

How often do hair extensions need cutting?

Most people trim the ends every two to three months, ideally at the same time as a move-up. Human hair wears at the ends just like your own hair.

Can you cut hair I had installed somewhere else?

Yes. Just tell us which method you have, and we'll adapt the cut and avoid working too close to the attachments.
