A party wig doesn't have to be a toy. The difference between a wig that looks fun and one that looks good comes down almost entirely to the hairline and the fit.
Three levels
- Pure fancy dress: brightly coloured synthetic, worn a few times
- Character look: synthetic with a lace front, looks real in photos and from a distance
- A real change: human hair that you can cut, style and wear again
What gives a wig away in photos
- A hairline that starts too straight and too far forward
- Too much shine on top – the flash bounces off
- A parting with no depth, so the hair looks like it's sitting on the head
How to keep it in place all night
Wear a wig cap, adjust the straps before you leave home, and go slightly too loose rather than too tight – a wig that pinches becomes unbearable after three hours. If you have long hair of your own, braid it flat around the head first.
