Att bära peruk i vardagen: träna, sova och duscha

The questions we get most often are rarely about appearance. They are about everyday life: can you exercise, can you sleep in it, what happens in the shower, and what if someone hugs me. Here are the straight answers.

Training

Yes, it works. Three things make a difference: a capliner underneath that absorbs sweat and provides friction to absorb it, updo or braided hair if the wig is long, and a wig that actually fits.

Many people use an older wig as a training wig and save the nice one for something else. Sweat wears down, especially synthetics, and a training wig has to take that wear and tear.

If you still feel unsure when you move around a lot, having your wig attached in the salon is the solution. Then the wig will stay in place for three to six weeks and you don't have to think about it at all.

Sleep

We advise against it. The wig is exposed to hours of friction against the pillow, and synthetic hair quickly tangles from it. Even real hair is unnecessarily worn out.

A soft hat or scarf works better for those who don't want to sleep without something on their head. If you have a headband, things are different – then the wig stays in place and you can care for it according to the advice you've been given, preferably with a silk or satin pillowcase.

Shower and bath

Here is the big dividing line. If you wear the wig with bands and combs, you take it off when you shower. If you have an attachment, it stays in place, and you can shower, bathe, and swim as usual.

It is precisely this difference that makes many people choose to attach after a while. Avoid water and strong heat for the first day after the attachment is made.

Weather

Wind is rarely the problem people imagine. A wig that fits properly stays in place even in headwinds – the hair moves, just like your own hair does.

Rain won't damage the wig, but real hair will lose its style when it gets wet, just like your own hair would. Cold, dry indoor air is what really wears it out, as wig hair can't rehydrate itself.

When someone hugs you

This is the real concern for many, and one that is rarely spoken out loud. The answer is that a properly fitting wig doesn't move when someone hugs you, and other people almost never give a second thought to whether someone is wearing a wig.

The feeling that it will slip usually comes from it actually slipping a little. In that case, it is the fit that needs to be addressed, not the anxiety that needs to be overcome. Custom Fit solves size and fit in one job.

The thing that decides everything: that you can put it on yourself

The most common reason why a wig feels unreliable isn't the wig. It's that no one has shown you how to put it on. Most people put it too far back, which both looks wrong and makes it move.

One hour is enough to learn. We go through it in Wig Class , where you do the entire process yourself with us next to you.

Frequently asked questions

Is it possible to swim in chlorinated water with a wig?

It works with a clip, but chlorine and salt water dry out wig hair faster than anything else. Soak your hair in fresh water before going in, wear a swimming cap if you can, and rinse it out immediately afterwards.

Will it be hot to wear a wig in the summer?

Warmer than your own hair, yes, but the difference is mostly due to the cap. A construction with open sections breathes significantly better than a tight cap, and a thin cotton capliner does more for comfort than most people think.

Can I wear a helmet over my wig?

Yes. Tie your hair low at the nape of your neck to ensure the helmet fits properly, and use a thin capliner to prevent friction. Expect the hairstyle to need re-styling afterwards – just like your own hair under a helmet.
