Care is what determines how long your extensions stay soft and shiny. The routines are simple, but they need to be done regularly.
Brushing
- Always start at the top
- Hold onto the line with your other hand.
- Use a soft brush designed for hair extensions
- Brush twice a day
This is the single most important routine. Tangles left in become hard and wear down both the attachments and your own hair.
Laundry
- Sulfate-free shampoo
- Massage your scalp with your fingertips, not your nails.
- Don't rub the lengths
- Conditioner only on lengths and ends, never at the edges
- Rinse thoroughly.
How often
Every five to eight days. Use a leave-in between washes and don't wet your hair unnecessarily – moisture trapped at the hairline is what causes the most damage.
The night
Sleep with your hair in a loose braid, use satin or silk pillowcases and never go to bed with wet hair.
Styling
- Always heat protection
- Low to medium heat
- Work in small sections
- Finish with light hair oil on the ends.
Products
Moisture is the foundation: sulfate-free shampoo, moisturizing conditioner, leave-in, hair oil on the ends and a wrap about once a week. Our hair care packages and KIS Keratin Infusion System work on both your own hair and extensions.
How do you know the routine is working?
- Hair feels soft
- The shine remains after several weeks
- The lines are stable
- No recurring tangles at the fasteners
If it starts to feel stiff at the fasteners despite the routine, it is usually a sign that it is time for a promotion , not that you are doing something wrong.
